this year, the 9th graders have shown there are still some more talented players coming up. John Glenn fought off a scrappy, three point shooting Triton baliclub 54 to 49 January 29th. The Falcons opened up a close game with 20 second-quart er points. Despite 5 three pointers in the second half by Triton, the freshman maintained a ten point lead for most of the second half for the victory. A very balanced scoring attack was led by Jason Bare with

11 points and 5 rebounds. Nathan Lichtenbarger turned in one of his finer games with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Others scoring for the Falcons were Jason Fisher 8 points. Ryan Walls 7 points, Jerry Gorby 6 points, Andy Kaser 5 points, Ryan Annis 4 points, and Brent Hostrawser 3 points. Triton's Bell turned in an outstanding game with 22 points including 2 three pointers and 8 of 9 free throw shots. With a 7 and 7 record going into their final game hosted by Culver, the Falcons finished in exciting style. The score was knotted at halftime 19 to 19, after three quarters 27 to 27 and after four quarters 39 to 39. Despite having trouble at the free throw line all night long, it was five free throws in the overtime period (3 by Lichtenbarger) that pulled out the 44 to 41 win. This victory allowed the freshman to reach a year long goal of finishing with a winning season. Fisher finished the night with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jason Bare helped out with 10 points of his own, followed by Lichtenbarger, 9 points. Jerry Gorby added 6 points and 5 rebounds to the cause, while Walls and aser contributed 4 and 2 points respectively. Ryan Walls also dished out three assists in the contest. Congratulations to the freshmen

team and Coach Kandy Schmeltz on a successful season. Members of the 1990-91 Freshmen team (L to R) Andy Kaser, Jason Bare, Jason Fisher, Brad Annis, Nathan Lichtenbarger, Ryan Walls. Ryan Annis, Brent Hostrawser, Jerry Gorby, Andy Dobbs. Jason Roush, Rickey Scott and Coach Schmeltz. MANGUS STATEHOUSE REPORT The war in the Gulf continues to grab the headlines this week as the Allies bomb Iraqi forces in Kuwait and Iraq. Please keep President Bush and our men and women in the armed forces in your prayers. One thousand and sixty-seven bills have been filed for consideration this session. I'd like to bring everyone up to date on the status of some bills that may be of particular interest. The majority budget bill contains some unpopular spending cuts. What worries me most is the proposed reduction in revenue to leal government, the administration and majority party are trying to force property tax increases. Not long ago they were promising no

new taxes. The budget must not be balanced on the backs of property taxpayers. Specifically, the majority wants to keep beer and cigarette tax money and Build Indiana (lottery) money in the state's general fund, instead of distributing it to local government. Communities rely or this money for vital services. House Bill 1301 is another interesting piece of legM-uon. It would require businesses to provide mammogram coverage in their insurance packages. Representative Patrick Kiely offered an amendment that would extend the coverage to state employees. Unfortunately, the amendment was defeated. The overall tone of the session so far is cautious. Since the state if facing such a large deficit, new spending proposals are getting a cold reception, regardless of their merit. It will be difficult to pass partisan legislation into law this year because the Democrats control the House, and the Republicans control the Senate. I am one of only a handful of minority House members who have had a bill pass third reading so far. I anticipate very little Republican legislation will pass through the House this year because the majority party can ignore our bills, if they choose. Hopefully, the majority party will seek the wisdom of House Republicans. I would like to thank the people of my district for all the mail I have received, both pro and con, on a variety of issues. The concerns of my constituents are foremost in my mind. If you would like to write to me, my address is: The State House, Room 336, Indianapolis, IN 46204. They call it take-home pay because, after taxes, there’s no other place you can go with it.
