LOCAL Bth GRADERS SPLIT CAGE GAMES The Urey Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team split a pair of games last week. On Tuesday the Falcons dropped a close 36-32 decision to a tough LaPorte Boston quintet on the local hardwood and Thursday the locals traveled to Mishawaka Beiger and came away with an easy 43-23 win. The locals fell behind 17-9 at the first stop in the Boston game, but came back strong in the second quarter to trail 21-19 at the half. The score was all even at 27-27 at the end of three periods of play. Landon Weigand led the Falcon attack with 10 points while Tony Lidgard added 9 tallies, Bryon Winkleman canned 7, Dan Mark 4 and Eryk Bilski 2 to complete the scoring. At Beiger, the Falcons jumped to a 10-5 lead in the first quarter and were never headed. Urey led 21-10 at t he intermission and 37-13 to start the final stanza. Dan Mark topped all scorers with 16 tallies for the winners, Landon Weigand chipped in 11, Ryan Reese 6, Bryon Winkleman 4, Rob VanArsdale 3, Eryk Bilski 2 and

EIGHTH GRADE GIRLS READY FOR ’9l SEASON Twenty-one candidates have signed up to participate in the up and coming 1991 eighth grade girls basketball campaign at the Urey Middle School, according to coach Dan Hutton. The eighth grade coach also stated that the 1991 schedule has been increased from 10 games to 12 games plus two tournaments. The Lady Falcons will participate in the Grissom four-team tournament on Saturday, Feb. 16, along with teams from Plymouth, Nappanee and Grissom. On Saturday, March 2, the Falcons will host a four-team event at North Liberty which will include South Central, New Prairie and Jimtown. The following girls have signed up to play this season: Stacie Aldrich. Jennifer Annis, Jennifer Bergland, Carmi a Bowlds, Elyse Gingenpeel, Jennifer Dittmar, Krista Eastbum, Renee Fisher. Amber Fraiser, Tabatha higgins, Jennifer Hoover, Kelly Kime, Christy Klingerman, Sarah LaVigne, Tracy Legge, Anittah Patrick, Amy Paul, Rochelle Shank, Kari Snyder, Jennifer Thomas and Shannon Williams. Patricia Lozano and Aimee Christinsen have indicated they are interested in manager positions.
