SALVATION ARMY DRIVE FOR 1990 IS NOW OVER The Walkerton committee for the Salvation Army ended their kettle drive last Saturday with members of the American Legion Post 189 ringing the bells and manning the kettles. A total of $454.42 was taken in Saturday, bringing the year’s total to $1,111.21 This figure is down from recent years and the requests for help this year are up considerably. The local committee, who has only this means of money raising other than direct donations, uses this money locally, most of it at the holiday season, but also throughout the year as the needs arise. They would like to extend a hearty thank you to members of the Tri Kappa, Walkerton Lions, volunteers and the American Legion Post 189, who assisted on the three Saturdays tn this year’s drive. Without these people giving of their time, this would not be possible. They brave all kinds of weather, warm, cold, windy, snow and rain to help the local committee with their fund raising. Also this year a special thank you to Linder and Maxine Schmeltz who filled in when Bob and Don couldn’t. We also would like to thank the public for dropping their coins and bills into the kettles on these three Saturdays. Their willingness to help by donating whatever they can is the real power behind the drive. The committee would also like to state they wish they could do more in many cases, but there are limitations. They also wish to extend to all a very happy holidays and thank vou for helping them make the holidays a little brighter for many area families.
