21. 1916, in Athens, Michigan and was a retired farmer. He married Helen Slabaugh on Dec. 8, 1934, in Crown Point, who survives. Also surviving are two sons. Royce, of Granger and Fred, of Osceola; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren and a sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Starke County Hospice. JOHN S. WALKER John S. Walker. 73. of 111 Sunset Drive. Walkerton, passed away at 9:30 am., on Wednesday, in his home following a brief illness. He was born on July 5, 1917, in South Bend, to John Anthony and Katherine (Kolacz) Walker, and lived here all of his life. On July 3, 1948 he married Alice L. Hartman, in South Bend, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Eugene J , of Walkerton and John A., of Louisville, Colorado; five grandchildren; five great-grand-hildren; three sisters, Hildegard

Avery, of Mishawaka and Anna Nemeth and Laura Dombrowski, both of South Bend and two brothers, Louis, of North Liberty and Clem, of Walkerton. Two sisters and four brothers preceded him in death. Services were held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home, Walkerton, with Rev. Robert A. Yast officiating Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. He was a member of St. Mary's Church of the Holv Rosary, South Bend; Bendix UAW Local 9; Walkerton American Legion Post 189; was past commander of VFW Post 1954, North Liberty; was a U.S. Army veteran of World War 11, serving with the 131st Combat Engineers and retired in 1982 after 25 years at Bendix. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph County Muscular Dystrohpy Association. ALTA V. NEWCOMER Alta V. Newcomer. 77, of 900 S. State Street, North Liberty passed away at 12:08 a.m., on Saturday, Dec. 15, in St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend, after an illness. She was born on April 15, 1913, in Hamlet and she lived most of her life in this area. Her husband, William Newcomer preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 1981. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the A.M. Manuel Funeral Home, North Liberty, with Rev. Charles Richmond officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. She was a member of the North Liberty Church of Christ Memorial contributions may be made to the church. SERVICE NOTES Army and Air Force Hometown News — Pvt. Jeremy A. Brantley has completed training at the U.S. I Army Infantry School, Fort Ben I ning, Columbus, Georgia. During the course, students re I ceived training which qualified I them as light-weapons infantrymen and as indirect-fire crewmen in a rifle or mortar squad. Instruction included weapons qualifications, tactics, paroiling, land mine war fare, field and combat operations. Brantley is the son of Richard C. and Mary Brantley of Rural Route 1, Grovertown.
