THAT TIME OF YEAR The Christmas holiday season is something special to a lot of people. This is the time of year when donations and contributions to charities and various charitable organizations is at its best. In fact, statistics show that in most cases over half of the donations received by such as this come during the holiday season. Apparently more thought is given to giving at the joyous holiday time when this is on the minds of us all anyway. Locally, the Salvation Army committees that serve the immediate towns, use this period as their only fund raising time of the year. Should tragedy strike at other times, efforts no doubt would be made, but in running the regular programs, which incidently do most of their local work at the Christmas season, this is their time to raise their funds. Also the Christian Community Pantry is very busy at this time of year although their job continues 12 months of the year. However, donations of items and money are emphasized at the holiday period. We could go on and on. The local service organizations, there are groups from schools and churches, and other clubs and organizations that do much of their charity work at this holiday season. They depend on various means for raising their needed funds, but certainly the donations at Christmas are very important. If it is within your power, such groups as these do need help and this is the time it is most freely given. It does warm the heart to know that you have helped where help is really needed.
THANKS ELSIE Thanks to Elsie Heimer for inviting REAL Services to a free Christmas dinner sponsored by the Evening Star Rebekahs and the Walkerton Oddfellows Lodge. The food was delicious and served beautifully and 1 know Santa worked overtime to make so many people happy. Sincerely, Catherine Keefe 1009 Tyler St. Walkerton “Trees, Trees Everywhere" They ship them any and everywhere. Every year the Stuntz and Hochstetler ship wreaths and Christmas trees to Texas. Florida. Nevada, Saudi ’.Arabia. Yes, somewhere in the desert, Eric Shields is enjoying a Christmas tree from his home area of Walkerton,' Indiana. The Hochstetlers have recieved word that the tree has been received. I've shipped a tree to Texas for several years. Wreaths go out to all over the continent from the Stuntz-Hoch-stetler farm. This is just another service that can and will be given by established tree businesses like Stuntz and Hochstetler, in the area. I'm finding out as I grow' maturer (older), there are many things that 1 have trouble eating. Pizza is now one of them, Last night we traveled to South Bend to celebrate our granddaughter Catherine’s birthday. Well, pepperoni has now been added to the list. Anyway. happy number six, Catherine! Safety is sometimes the further - est thing away in our minds at this busy time of the year. We forget to stop for stop signs, both walking and driving. We get into a big hurry down to the store and forget to seatbelt the kids We pass on no passing areas on the highway just because we're running a little behind. We’ve got schedules to meet, and if we are killed or injured, we’ll never make that meeting at all. Be careful, so that you can be around for the next holiday season. 1 like to see the different decorations put up at Christmas time. Some people are very imaginative and talented. Walkerton used to have a decorating contest I remember Jim Reed's house and yard decorated as a wonderland of lights. There were many, many
Christmas scenes depicted. Maybe we should have another contest. What about it, Chamber of Commerce? Maybe it could be headed by the Town Hall. Fred, the wooly worm is still eating and sleeping. It is partial to black bread. Remember that there is still time to donate to the church pantry. The ding-a-lingers are still out ringing for the Salvation Army. Be generous to those who are having a hard time now and all of the time. It gives a good feeling to share. I still have all the jobs to do, but 1 probably won't do them yet.
