FRESHMAN BASKETBALL NEWS The freshman basketball team has compiled two wins against two losses during the early 1990-91 season. The Falcons jumped out to 10 to 0 lead at South Central while claiming a 31 to 26 victory. Jerry Gorby led all scorers with 10 points with the following teammates contributing in the scoring column as well: Jason Fisher, 8 points; Nathan Lichtenbarger, 6 points; Ryan Walls, S points; and Jason Bare, 2 points. Fisher added four assists and eight rebounds to his efforts. Glenn travelled to Bremen for game number two. After falling behind 14 to 6 at the first quarter break, the Falcons could not get closer than three points. The final score was 49 to 43 in favor of the Lions. Fisher led the freshman team with 13 points. Gorby reached double figures with 10, followed by Brent Hostrawser's 4 points. Walls, Lichtenbarger. Ryan Annis and Brad Annis all connected for a basket. Fisher, Gorby and Lichtenbarger each pulled down six rebounds and Ryan Walls dished out three assists. Hartle and Hammond of Bremen led their attack with 18 and 14 points. The Falcons went 3 for 6 at the free throw line while the host team capitalized on 9of 11 attempts. LaPorte visited Glenn for their home opener with some good fundamental basketball in a 10 to 8 opening quarter in favor of the visiting team. LaPorte pressured the Falcons into numerous turnovers during the second and third quarters resulting in Glenn's second loss. Learning from their mistakes, the Glenn Falcons were determined to play some solid basketball against New Prairie. The Falcons turned in some of their best performances of the year during the first half action. Glenn led at halftime 29 to 15, thanks to 8 first quarter points from Fisher. One troublespot for the squad this year is playing consistent throughout an entire game. The second half found the Falcons having trouble with some full court pressure, which produced many of their points in the first half. A last quarter rally by the Cougars got them within six points, but some timely free throw shooting by the Falcons made them the victors 46 to 37. The Falcons were 11 for 16 in the fourth quarter and 17 for 30 in the game on three throws. The rebounding leaders for this game were Gorby with 8, Fisher with 7, and Lichtenbarger with 6. This was a well played game overall by many team members with stats not showing up in the scoring column. Scoring in double figures for Glenn were Jason Fisher at 16 points, and Jerry Gorby with 11. Others scoring were Jason Bare with 6 points; Andy Kaser with 4 of 4 free throws; Nathan Lichtenbarger with 3 points; Ryan Walls and Rickey Scott with 2 points; and Andy Dobbs with 1 point. Jason Roush contributed much needed inside defense support with Ryan Annis out with an ankle injury. Glenn s next game in Thursday at C.M.A. on December 6, at 6:30 p.m. Club Members Hear Rev. Gates’ Timely Topic A reminder that Thanksgiving is just what it implies, not just a feast and a family gathering, but a time to thank God for all the good things that one has been blessed with. This was Pastor Robert Gates’ message to the GFWC Walkerton Woman’s Community Club on Friday, November 16th. “Live with an attitude of thanksgiving,’’ he told the group and then led them in prayer. The business meeting was opened by president Ella Remus. Alfreds Onika introduced her hostesses, Mildred Nolcheff. Verice
Walz and Ann Rockwell, after which she gave devotions. The group sang “God Bless America’’ and “All Things Bright and Beautiful.” The secretary. Mildred McKesson. read the minutes of the last meeting and a letter from Ruth Bobbe who thanked the ladies for their thoughtfulness on her 50th birthday. Birthday ladies for November were Nadine Keiper. Mildred Casey and Mildred McKesson. Nadine drew the birthday gift. The program chairman, Barbara Simpson, expressed her deep depreciation to Sue Brooks for the entertainment at the November 2nd meeting at Al’s Diner. There were many other compliments paid Sue for her efforts and the great job she did. The club will miss a few of its members in the next few months since they are off to a warmer climate. Viola Bregi left Thursday for Phoenix, Pauline Stanley and Carl left for Florida on Friday and Mary Jane Beaty will be leaving on the 17th for her daughter's home in California. Mildred Casey reminded the group of the Christmas luncheon at the Holiday Inn in Plymouth on December 7th. Reservations were taken. Anyone wanting to make a reservation can call Mildred Casey. Barbara Simpson asked for volunteers to model hats at a coming meeting and got sufficient volunteers. After the recitation of the ‘Collect’ by the group, they exchanged wishes for a happy Thanksgiving before going their separate ways. REAL SERVICES NUTRITION PROGRAM N.L. Our sincere thanks goes to Shirley Whitaker of Grapevine, Texas, who was so very thoughtful. It’s wonderful to be remembered by an old friend. Our local Oddfellows and Rebekahs have come up with a very unique idea, they are inviting all senior citizens. Miller's Merry Manor residents, and any needy families to a Christmas dinner. All they ask is that you make a reservation by filling in a form at
Budd's Bargain Bam, Walkerton Sporting Goods or by calling Elsie Heimer, Lincoln Twp. trustee at 586-2186. There are also forms at the Real Services site. The meal will be held at the Community Building from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on December 9. Anyone caring to make a donation to this very worthwhile endeavor, may do so by contacting Elsie Heimer, 586-2186. Cash donations, salads and cookies are most welcome. This idea sounds like the old Walkerton spirit and its beginning to feel like Christmas. Our seniors were surprised Monday when Stan Schlemmer was joined by Florence Seekings and their talents shined in the program they presented to us, a double pleasure and we all enjoyed their music. Hope they do this again soon. Florence will be back on Monday. The Schweders are in charge of the program. Hooks Drug Store sent calendars for all of us and our thanks goes to them. On Tuesday, Jim Thibodeaux chaired and gave a very interesting lesson about the human body. On Wednesday, Ervin Stuntz chaired and he talked about Australia and about his visits to

that country and the many friendships he made while visiting there. Flippy and Floppy, alias Fred and Opal Bullinger, gave another funny skit. Fred baked again and his famous bread was won by Ruth Ullery, Dean Knowlton, and Jane Kuklinski. Fred and Millie Daniels and Verice Walz at the piano led us in our Friday sing-a-long. We appreciate their musical talents and really enjoy our kind of music that is sweet and soothing to the ear. Like most senior citizens, we are not hard rock fans. Juice winners were Art Kreibiel, Jim Clapper and Grace Pugsley. Don’t forget our Christmas party at the site on December 15 at 6:00 p.m. It’s pot luck, meat and drink will be furnished. OFF CAMPUS LOCATIONS Thanks for growing enrollment, Ancilla is now able to offer evening classes at three off-campus locations.
