National Education Week The John Glenn School Corporation and the John Glenn Education Association thank the patrons of the John Glenn community for supporting the local schools. November 11-17 is National Education Week. We encourage all citzens to recognize the need for excellence in education. Patons are encouraged to visit your local schools regularly and to take an active role in the educational processes of educating the community’s children for the future. Your schools will be honoring American Education by proudly displaying the Flag of Learning and Liberty. Please join with us by recognizing the importance of education and encouraging your children to do their best in school. WALKERTON AGLOW TO MEET Walkerton’s Women's Aglow will meet Thursday, November 16, at the Walkerton Community Building at 9:00 a.m. for fellowship and refreshments. Praise and worship is at 9:30 a.m. Gloria North is an anointed, radiant, victorious woman of God. She was rejected at birth because her dad really wanted a boy. That spirit of rejection remained attached to her until the Lord revealed to her who she is in Christ Jesus, about her weapons and their use, plus her authority that was vested in her. Gloria has a call on her life to encourage, teach and help hurting women come to freedom and wholeness from hurts, bondages, and situations of the past or present and press toward the mark of the high calling of God through Christ Jesus in their lives. Come expecting to be blessed. BIRTHS Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dipert, of Koontz Lake, are the proud greatgrandparents of Richard Jasper Larimore, born on October 21, in California. He weighed in at six pounds and 12 ounces and his parents are Kin and Rick Larimore, of Van Nuys, California. Grandparents are Arlene and John Affel, of Thousand Oaks, California and Mr. and Mrs. Siu, of Beverly Hills, California. NOTICE The November meeting of the Oregon Township Gub of the Starke County Extension Homemaker Program will be held at the Koontz Lake Conservation Gub on Tuesday, November 13, at 1:00 p.m. EST. Hostesses will be Jane Kuklinski and Viola Bregi. Members are asked to bring a wrapped prize for card bingo. GIRLS SOAP GAME AT JOHN GLENN HIGH SCHOOL The John Glenn High School girls basketball team will have a soap game on Friday, November 9, at 6:30 p.m. Admission to the game is a bar of soap. Standing are Pat Strickland, Jason Farnsworth, Brent Schmidt, Mr. Kaufman principal and Mary Metz. Red ribbons have decked the halls for a third year at North Liberty School. The week of Oct. 21-28 has been designated as the Third National Red Ribbon Campaign Week for a Drug-Free America, sponsored by the National Federation of Parents for a Drug Free Youth, and the Indiana Federation of Communities for Drug-Free Youth. The slogan for this campaign is “The Choice . . .Drug Free.” Every student, faculty, staff and visitors received a red "Drug Free” ribbon on Monday, Oct. 22, and were urged to wear them all week, to show their support against drugs. The art classes created drug awareness posters which were judged and awarded prizes. Our gratitude goes to our judges, Mrs. Lynn Schmidt, PTA representative and Tim Stewart, community representative. These posters will be displayed at the school and in the windows of community businesses. Miss Noelle Bough, North Liberty art teacher, was instrumental in organizing this poster contest. Students in the fifth grade wrote stories and poems, saying NO to drugs. These were read daily at the school and published. A Red Ribbon puppet team was developes this year providing Drug Free programs to various primary level classes. Those involved included Jennifer Kaser, Sara Fraiser, Angie LaVigne and Beth Honaker. Be on the lookout at the Five Star Grocery, in North Liberty. All the North Liberty students participated in designing Red Ribbon Week pictures on the grocery bags carrying home your groceries. Senior Citizens will meet at Al’s Diner, on State Road 23, Koontz Lake, for their regular meeting, on Thursday. November IS, at 12:00 noon (slow time). You can have any choice from the menu. ELDERLY IN WALKERTON A program for the elderly to walk in enclosed conditions has been arranged with the cooperation of the John Glenn School Corporation, in Walkerton. Adults only who need to walk for health reasons, may use the Elementary School Building five days a week for this exercise. Using the Walkerton Trail entrance, walking may be done from 4:40 to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The program is now in effect. America’s Young Woman Os The Year Nov. 15-17 Several standout members of this year's John Glenn and LaVille high school’s senior class are among the early entries in the Walkerton Area Young Woman of the Year Awards competition. They will have an impressive list ot awards to strive for this year. The America’s Young Woman of the Year hopefuls, who will participate in the program to select and honor the community’s outstanding high school senior of the year, were announced today by Gene Knowlton and Tom Coffey, general chairmen of the Walkerton Area Young Woman of the Year committee. The local program will be held November 15 and 17 under the sponsorship of Walkerton JCs. The local chairmen also announced the awards list for the program, a total of SISOO scholarships and other awards, topped by a SI.OOO scholarship to the winner. "America's Young Woman of the Year, formerly Junior Miss, is among the country’s most respected youth activities,” Gene Knowlton said. "It seeks to honor and reward young women all parents would be proud to call their own. It is not a beauty contest, not a popularity contest, or a talent show. America’s Young Woman of the Year honors the outstanding character, poise, concern and hope for the future.” In addition the local winner will advance to the state awards activities which are scheduled for Frankfort. Indiana. The state winner will represent the Walkerton Area in the America’s Young Woman of the Year program at Mobile, Alabama. More than 53.9 million in scholarships, bonds, cash and other awards will be awarded to America’s Young Woman of the Year honorees this year in national, state and local programs. 0-D Drama Club To Present Comedy Nov. 16 The Oregon-Davis drama club will present the three act comedy, "The Time Machine,” on November 16, at 7:00 p.m., at the Oregon-Davis High School. Tickets will be $3.00 per person and can be bought from drama club members or at the door. "The Time Machine.” written by Frank V. Priore and published by Hever Publishing Company, start Liz Goodrich as Jan Easton, a teenaged, electronics wizard who has managed to invent a time machine and she uses it to help her sister, Loni, played by Chele Stephani, with her history project. Through a mishap, all of American history has been rewritten and in humorous desperation. Jan and Loni try to correct the time con tinuum. "The Time Machine" also stars Todd Gilbert as George, a teenager who is amazed at the changes that have taken place in America and presents Holli Phend as Luella Jane Kloppenburger, a girl who sticks her nose into everybody’s

FALL SPORTS AWARDS SET FOR NOV. 8 On Thursday, Nov. 8, at 6:30 p.m., EST. John Glenn High School will be holding their annual Fall Sports Awards Night in the high school cafeteria Athletes participating in football, volleyball, cross country, boys tennis and cheerleading will be honored. A pot luck dinner will be featured and families are asked to bring a covered dish and either a vegetable dish, salad or dessert, serving spoons and their own table service. The beverages will be provided by the athletic department After the dinner the presentation of awards will be made by the coaches. Pictures of all trophy and special award winners will be taken in the gymnasium following the presentations. NORTH LIBERTY PROJECT SAFE/ENERGY ASSISTANCE Temporary site for North Liberty residents will be at the North Liberty United Methodist Church. Friday, December 14 and Friday, December 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. applications will be taken for assistance on electric and gas, or bulk heating fuels. Bring social security numbers for all in house, written proofs of income: wages, AFDC, social security, pensions, interest on savings and regular income for each household member. When you sign-up with Project Safe, you must bring with you an electric bill, a gas bill or name of your heating supplier, proof of income. Social Security number and a copy of your lease if you are renting. If you do not have a copy of your lease, you can pick up a Housing Affidavit at the GerkTreasurer's office. You must also make an appointment at the ClerkTreasurer’s office, for a sign up time with Project Safe. If you have any question concerning sign-up, please call 586-3711.
