ATTENDS CONVENTION Ruth Finch of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran was one of 265 women who attended the Indiana Kentucky Svnodica! Convention of the Women of the ELCA. the women’s organization of the Evangelical Lu’heran Church in America. The event was held at the University Inn in West Lafayette, from Sep’. 28-30. As one of the 92 delegates, she helped decide the direction this organization will take in 'he coming year. In addition, 'he convention participants heard a report from Gwendolyn Carr. President of the Women of the FLCA. were inspired through Bible S'udies led bv Deaconess Louise Williams. Additional features of 'he weekend event included a Communion Service on Friday evening. workshops on Saturday, a banque' on Saturday evening, and fellowship with each other. The Svndical organization is one of 64 organizations in the church--wtdc organization which came into existance Jan. 1. 1988 as a result of 'he merger of the Lu’heran Church in America, the American Lutheran Church, and the Association of Evangelical Lu’heran Churches. This new 5 million member denomina'ion is the fourth largest dcnomina'ion in the United States. The new women's organization began wi'h approximately one half million members.
