Congratulations to Lloyd and Genova Kaser, of Teegarden. who will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary at the Blissvillc Church of the Brethren on Sunday. October 14 from 2-4 p.m. Also congratulations goes to Russell and Marv Knepp, of Linkville. who will celebrate their 60th on Sundav. October 14 from 2-4 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Plymouth. These couples are both well known in and around North Liberty. Sundav guests of Alex and Pauline I askowski were Ben and Sallv Stawchi. of Roseland, near Demotte. Indiana. They took them on a tour of North Liberty and showed them all the building, remodeling and painting that is being done. It sure helps the looks of our town. Aletha Croy and Regina Wosny attended the American Sweetheart Beauty Contest at the Century Center, on Sunday. Serena Spencer. one vear old great granddaughter of Aletha was a contestant. She won a trophv and medalian for her age group. The g<K>d news for this week is that the old dime store, now called Liberty Drugs & Emporium, opened their store Monday morning for business. I am happv to sav. I was their first customer and even had my picture taken making a purchase. So please pay them a visit, as thev have so many things Harvev's use to carry in the dime store, besides all they had in the drug store. The pharmacy is just beautiful, and they are still working on the new soda fountain which thev hope to open on October 15. Dave’s brother from Kentucky is helping, doing a lot of the work. We certainlv ail wish you well, we love vou and we need you in our town. About 140 friends and neighbors met at the Pine Creek Church on Tuesday. ladies of the church. Next month will be our Thanksgiving dinner and of course, they will serve turkey and all the trimmings. Then some of our friends will be leaving to spend the winter in Florida. We had several present for the first time. Also Henry Lemerts will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on the 4th of November, there at the church, and Mary and Russell Knepp will be celebrating their 60’h wedding anniversary. Our secretary. Evelyn Yeagley. just returned home from the hospital so her sister. Deloris Pippenger huik notes for her. Gladys Sheneman read a funny poem. “The Twenty Third Pound” after which the Pine Creek minister. Rev. Kendal Flmore gave the ntxtn day prayer. Madelyn Nelson played dinner music after which John and Evelyn Harbaugh showed slides of their trip to Alaska with- a tour group from American Dream Tours. Arlene Cohoe will have the program in November. James Gardner, of Lake Wales. Florida, has been here visiting his mother. Lola Pavcy. Other Sundav dinner guests were Lowell and Nancy Gardner and son, Ross, of Oxford and Jack and Shirley Norris. Evening callers were Raymond and Evelvn Davis, of Plymouth. Our sympathy goes to Mary Reamsnyder in the loss of her husband, who passed away Monday afternoon at Healthwin Hospital. Thev use to live on Pine Road before moving. We also want to remember Dorothy Reed in the loss of her sister. Vylet Baker, of Walkerton. Fourteen members of the Church of Christ enjoved dinner together after church on Sunday, at the Fish Lake Inn. Jim and Rosalee Knecht, of Apple Valiev. Minnesota, and their daughter. Tammy and husband. Doug Shultz and daughter. Mickey, all spent the weekend with Jim’s parents. Bob and Dorothy Knecht. On Saturday evening they met Roger and Debbie Simmons, at Warsaw, and all enjoyed a delicious dinner together at the Long Chinese Restaurant. They returned home on Mondav. Charles and Helen Hensley spent a few days in Bedford. On Sundav. they traveled to Linton and attended the Hensley family reunion. They also visited with Mae Telrick. Helen’s aunt who is in the
nursing home there. Roger and Marge Kronk spent a few davs this past week with Marge’s brother. Andrew Bergstedt and family in Palm Springs. California. Jake and Rosa Shetler, of Decatur. Illinois, spent the weekend with Lonnie and Justine Shetler and son. Your news reporter decided Saturday morning to attend the open house of New and Antique Quilt sale on Rankert Road. 1 drove down that road and come to find out it was the old William Steele homestead. Mv. how thev have changed the looks of that place. Marv Ellen, who has lived there the past two years also has an antique shop in the mall at New Buffalo. Michigan. She had over one hundred of all kinds of quilts hung on clothes lines over her front yard. Made me ’hink of the big washings we use to sec on clothes lines, which is almost a thing of the past. She also had lots of other antiques for sale. I liked the beautiful antique crazy velvet comforter, which really brought back memories. as I made one and did all the fanev work around those pieces. Well, we finally wore it out but I s'ill remember on a cold night it reallv kept us warm as it was so heavy. She was asking $450.00 for 'he quilt. Harvest Homecoming At Pine Creek Church “New Beginnings” is the theme of Harvest Homecoming '9O scheduled for October 14 at Pine Creek Church of the Brethren, located at the intersection of Pine and Stanton Roads. 2*/j miles west of U.S. 31 and 2Vj miles north of U.S. 6 in St. Joseph County. The dav is to begin with SundaySchool classes at 9:00 am. The adult classes will be in the second session of "New Life For All.” a study of evangelism and church growth. At 10:00 a.m., the morning worship is to begin. The Pine Creek church choir will be singing as well as the musical group "The Voices of Praise." Kendal Elmore. the pastor, plans to bring a message entitled "Moses Is Dead!” This will focus on the new beginning for God’s people after the death of Moses. The morning service is to be followed by a basket lunch to be enjoyed at noon. At 1:00 p.m. a Harvest Homecoming '9O Celebration Service is to feature more music by the Voices of Praise. A message entitled “New Beginnings???” is being prepared by Carolvn Stone Elmore. The wife of the pastor, and a mother of four. Carolyn serves as director of music ministries at Pine Creek. She is a native of Bassett. Virginia, and grew up in the Mount Hermon Church of the Brethren in that community. Before attending Ferrum College where she met her husband, she spent six months in Equador involved with Church of the Brethren mission work there. Through the years she has been very active both as a speaker and leading in music ministries. She has been called by some "God’s Cheerleader.” She has worked in Woman's Aglow as a guest speaker in a several different states as well as serving one term as president of the Charlottesville Virginia Women's Aglow. For the past several vears. she has worked in sales management with Tupperware home parties. The public is warmly invited to participate in all of the events of Harvest Homecoming '9O!
