COUGARS HAND FALCONS FIRST LOSS 19-12 After a scoreless first half, the John Glenn and New Prairie game turned into a scoring battle that found the host Cougars handing the Falcons their first loss in six games this year. The loss once again puts Glenn into a situation that dictates a win over Bremen in the final game if they want to share the conference title, pending the outcome of this weekend's games. The Falcons are 5-1. 4-1 in conference play with Culver and Bremen left to plav while the Bremen Lions are 5-0 in conference play with Jimtown and Glenn left to plav. The Cougars moved to 4-2 on the year and 3-2 in conference plav with the upset victory. The defenses were dominate in this 24 minutes and hard hitting featured the plav. However, things changed quicklv in the second half. The Cougars look the kickoff and after an incomplete pass, the second plav from scrimmage found Bill Kraus breaking through the middle and <Hitracing everyone for a 57 yard touchdown run. The try for the extra point was no good but the host Cougars were quickly on the board to lead 6-0. The Falcons then answered just about as quickly. They took the ball at the New Prairie 47 yard line and in five plays ended up in the Cougar end zone with Dennis Kaiser earning the final 23 yards for the score. This put the Cougars in front 12-6 as a two point conversion run was halted and the game moved into the fourth quarter with the Cougars clinging to the slim six point lead. However, the hosts were able to sustain a 59 yard drive in nine plays, using a lot of clock as well as chewing up the yards that was climaxed with a three yard run by David Hill. Jason Cauffman kicked the extra point and the score was 19-6 with time and the Cougars both an opponent. The Falcons weren't ready to give up. With quarterback John Johnson hurt on the last Cougar drive. Rick O'Connor came in and directed a 54 yard drive in 8 plays that put the Falcons in the end zone with 2:50 left on the clock. A pass attempt for two points was no good and New Prairie continued to have ’he lead 19-12. Glenn was able to get the ball back again in the game but they just couldn't get the job done against the clock and Cougars both. Extension Homemakers Club enjoyed a tour of Copshaholm. the old Oliver Mansion on Washington Street in South Bend on Tuesday for its regular meeting. Copshaholm was built in 1895 bv Joseph Doty Oliver. The furnishings. which are original to the 38-room mansion, range from the mid-17th century to the mid-20th century. Copshaholm. its landscaped gardens and carriage house, age on the National Register of Historic Places and was donated to the Northern Indiana Historical Society in 1989 and opened to the public in August. The Oliver family were founders of the Oliver Chilled Plow Company. a major international manufacturer of farm implements and equipment. The gift of Copshaholm is through the generosity of the members of the Oliver family including J. Oliver Cunningham. Jane Cunningham Warriner. Ann Cunningham McClure and Judd and Mary Lou Leighton. Following the tour members had lunch at Richards in South Bend and President Alda Ray reported some more additions to the club constitution and by-laws which will be read at the October meeting. Ii was announced Oct. 5 is the deadline to sign up for the tour to Frankenmuth. Michigan on Oct. 17. Martv Malstaff will drive to South Bend to catch the bus for anvone interested. All reservations for arts and craft day at the fairgrounds are also due October 5 and pavable in advance. Marty will leave Walkerton at 8 a m. for anvone wanting a ride October 27. The October meeting will be a Halloween masquerade party at the home of Norma Eddinger on Monday. October 22 beginning at 7:00 p.m. Guests are welcome as prospective members.
