NORTH LIBERTY NEWS By Gladys Sheneman The Feece family held their reunion, on Sunday, with 42 relatives attending at the Peppermint Hill Shelter. Ross Gardner of Oxford. Indiana, has been spending the past few days with his grandmother. Lola Pavey. Dinner guests Saturday of Howard and Helen Loucks were Terrie Miller. Chad. Adam and Keil, of Napolion. Ohio, and Sue Parsons, of Swanton. Ohio. Afternoon callers were Mary Shearer. Diana and Asia Gravel and Chad Horn, of Mishawaka. Jeff and Cindy Holtz and family have now purchased the former Hay home near the North Liberty park from Mr. Harvey who has nowmoved. They are busy now remodeling inside and arc scraping the outside and painting it white. Sure adds to its appearance. They would like information about it. as they would like to make it a historical site here in North Liberty. It was built in 1861. Mr. McKenzie and Bowen had a flour mill in back of the house years ago. They say the big grist wheels are buried somewhere in the park area. The Havs later bought it. There used to be an apple orchard text and then in 1920. they sold or donated it to the town for a park. The house faces the cast because there use to be a turn around. If you can give them any information or tell them where they can get some, please do. as they want to keep it in its original state. Their telephone number is 656-3080. Just received word that Dora May lost her friend Walter Huston Saturday as he had a heart attack at Annis Store in LaPaz. Dora and her husband Harry managed a restaurant at LaPaz years ago until it. burned and then they came to North Liberty and managed the restaurant, which formerly was the Newstand for sometime. They then left and went back to LaPaz. and had the Coffee Shop until Harry died. I’m sure many of you readers will remember Dora and our sympathy goes to her this week. I know Dora well because Claude and I sold them dressed chickens for their restaurants in LaPaz and also her in North Liberty. Sunday after the Youth League enjoyed a picnic cookout at the North Liberty Park with their parents and their coaches. Wayne Denham, Gary Mackow and George Jackson. There were 32 present and along with the delicious hot dogs, salads and desserts, they even had dirt cake. So of course I had to have some and it was really gwd. Did you ever eat dir' cake? Sure is different, so if you ever get a chance to eat some. I’m sure you will like it. They also had a ballgame after the meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dietrich, of Kissimmee. Florida, spent Tuesday and Wednesday with Ethel Rauen and in the evening Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hartman joined them for a delicious dinner together. They also called on other relatives and friends while here. Thev celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary on August 16. Congratulations and best wishes from all your many friends in North Liberty. The 42nd Correll Dennis Reunion was held on Sunday, August 12. at the North Liberty Park with 108 relatives present, coming from Germanv: Stewart. Virginia: West City and Elkville. Illinois; Ohio and manv from the North Liberty area. The reunion will be held the same time and place next year. Recent dinner guests of Ruth Cullar were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Carter and daughter, of South Bend; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cullar
and daughters, of Lakeville; and then on Saturday her niece. Lois Jean Middleton and her friends, of Lincoln Park. Michigan enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared by Ruth. The North Liberty United Methodist Church with their pastor James Stansell, will hold the 8:30 a.m. Church Service for the campers on August 26 at the Peppermint Hill Shelter at Potato Creek State Park. You are welcome. Your news correspondent called her son Dennis Sheneman. in Palm Desert. California, on Wednesday evening and guess what? He said he just got home from work and was reading The Independent - News. He had just read Hope Matz’s obituary and said he remembered Wayne and his folks Milo and Blanche. So this is why I write about those who lose loved ones because so many look forward to reading about w-hat's happening around North Liberty. Make plans to attend the Potato Creek Festival which will be held on the 14. 15 and 16 of Septembert this year and hope that the weather will be pefrect then. The North Liberty Lions Club is in charge of it this time. Flora Hough has returned home after spending a few days with Norma Reznik, in Howell. Michigan. On Tuesday afternoon. August 28. at 2:00 p.m., Madelyn Nelson. Gladys Sheneman and Charles Myers, of Teegarden, will be entertaining at Miller’s Merry Manor for Emma Smith, who will be 100 years old that day. and for Gertrude Behnke, who will be celebrating her 102nd birthday on the same day. This is really unusual, so a great time is being planned and you arc invited to the party. Have you noticed the beautiful painting on the north side of the HW| Hardware downtown as you drive through. At night it is lit up. It’s beautiful, thanks to Douglas Humes, who did the painting. They are busy inside the hardware reorganizing the merchandise and making a special paint room and display area. Drop in within the next 10 days as they are having a big sale during that time. A large crowd attended the ice cream social held Sunday night at the Church Os Christ with many visitors present after which all enjoyed the singing by “Daybreak”. Thev are great. Gladvs Sheneman. Ethel Wenner accompanied Evedine Platz to LaPorte Thursday morning where they met the Fun Follies Band at the Swanson Center and all boarded a Cardinal Bus and headed fwr the Indiana State Fair at Indianapolis. They went to the Senior Citizen Building where the group entertained at 11 o’clock and thev did a fantastic job. The Meloaires from Warsaw entertained from 10:00 to 11:00 and entertained with many of the favorite tunes back in the g<x>d old days. At noon the Sil vertones of Area 14 took over and then at one o'clock the Pines Chorus, of Bremen, entertained. They were great too, with the Bird singing a couple numbers. At 2 o'clock the Hoosier Harmonica Cut-Ups really played their harmonicas in so many different sounds and we had never heard before. Then the Ken Singers, of Jefferson County, really sang some beautiful gospel songs. Many closed their program with a patriotic song which is very fitting at

Our Olympics will be held on Saturday, , August 25th, at 10:00 a.m. This . event will be for all kids from , Kindergarten through 6th grade, and we will have many different events set up.
