ANNUAL PHOTO CONTEST Photographers from around Indiana will try to capture the Hoosier state’s natural splendor, and compete for 18 cash prizes totaling $2,200. in the Indiana Historical Society’s annual photography contest. From Wednesday. Aug 1. through Monday. October 1. the Society will accept color and black and white prints dealing with the contest theme of “Indiana Outdoors." The contest’s outdoor theme coincides with the Society’s new publication. Gene StrattonPorter: novelist and naturalist, a biography of the Hoosier author and conservationist. As well as writing a number of best-selling books. Stratton-Porter was renowned for her nature photographs. The Society’s annual photography contest is designed to encourage both amateur and professional photographers to document some aspect of life in Indiana which is or will be of historical interest. To fulfill this year’s theme, photographers should try to depict the natural beauty of the state's wildlife areas, parks, forests. lakes, streams and other outdoor areas. Contest prints must measure Bxlo inches in size. There is no limit to the number of entries per contestant: however, each photo must have an entry form or facsimile. and model releases must accompany entries where there are recognizable people in the photo. Negatives or slides from which prints are made must have been taken after Jan. 1, 1987. Winning photographs from previous years are not eligible. Also, entries should not be mounted and entry forms should not be attached to the photograph in any manner. Four prizes will be awarded in both the black and white and color categories. First place winners rothive s3so;'sedorfd place, $250: third place, $150; and fourth place, SIOO. Up to 10 honorable mention awards of SSO may be given, based upon the opinion of the judges. An exhibition comprised of selected contest entries will be displayed at the Society sometime in January, 1991.
