Firefly Festival Fills Summer Nights With Stars The Firefly Festival For The Performing Arts celebrates its tenth anniversary season of weekend entertainment under the stars this summer. June 16 to August 4. Over 20,000 will gather on the hillside at St. Patrick's County Park. South Bend, to enjoy family, friends, picnics, music, dance, and theater. The 1990 season includes something for everyone: comedy, dance, theater, pops, zydeco, folk music, mime, bluegrass, and the blues. The casual outdoor setting and ticket discounts for the young encourages children to discover the arts. The gala patron party precedes the opening night concert with Judy Collins on June 16. (Donors of $75/each or more are the Festival’s guests at the dinner party and the entire season). This year, it’s a birthday party to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Firefly’s arts in the park. The summer festival, which brings fans from Indiana. Michigan, Illinois, and dozens of other states, has grown to include 11 performances and a variety of educational opportunities. The Illustrated Theatre Touring Company perform "The Best of Summertales.’’ using a technique in which they not only become the characters, but also the props and scenery! Indiana’s Porter County Band. 6:15 p.m., Ohio’s Clear Fork Bluegrass Band. 7:30 p.m., Grammy award-win-ning Queen Ida and The Bon Temps Zydeco Band will intoduce zydeco to Michiana. August 4. 8 p.m. Newton Wayland and The South Bend Symphony Pops plan to celebrate the tenth year in their summer home at Firefly by pulling out all the stops. Wayland will provide original arrangements and musical surprises, and perform the "1812 Overture” complete with 14 cannon and 25 costumed cannoneers. $9 advance/$l 1 gate. ZETA PI PRESENTS SCHOLARSHIPS % Erin D. Ruff, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ruff, was presented a SSOO scholarship from Zeta Pi Tri Kappa. North Liberty at the awards program at John Glenn High School on May 17th. Erin plans to attend the University of Indianapolis, majoring in physical therapy. She has been involved in many school activities such as Junior Varsity and Varsity Basketball. SADD. Business Club and the Student Advisory Board. Erin’s accomplishments include being in the National Honor Society. and being selected for Who’s Who Among High School Students. Tri Kappa's goal is to promote quality education in this community. by giving scholarships to deserving students who apply. Receiving a $250 scholarship from Zeta Pi is Kathryn R. Jacob.

daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Jacob. She is planning to attend Butler University, majoring in pharmacy. She has been active at John Glenn High School in the concert and marching bands, jazz band, flag corps and pom pons. She has also I been in the swing choir, drama club I and on the Aerial staff. Her accomplishments at John I Glenn High School include being I salutatorian. Spell Bowl team I member for 3 years, a Hoosier I Girls State delegate, and a member | of the National Honor Society. Also recieving a $250 scholarship is Jennifer A. Rush, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Rush. Graduating from Oregon Davis High School, her scholarship was presented to her at commencement on June 2nd. Jennifer plans to attend LU. in Bloomington, majoring in advertising. She has been very active while at Oregon Davis. She’s been on the Student Council, in the Science and Math Clubs. Pep Club, on the yearbtKik staff, and on the Spell Bowl, just to name a few. Her accomplishments include recieving the Hoosier Scholar, getting Ist place on the Voice of Democracy. Hoosier Girls State Delegate, and a Lugar Symposium delegate as well as being a National Merit Commended Student. Zeta Pi Tri Kappa wishes all of these girls much success in the years ahead.
