Dennis Sheneman called to wish me a Happy Mother’s Day, from Palm Desert, California and told me they had such high winds and it blew so much sand on some of the highways coming into Palm Desert, that they had to close them and haul the sand away in big trucks. Now they are having to ration water, so 1 m thankful 1 live in good old North Liberty and I'm going to stay here and not complain about our weather. Tammy Stull and son, Brandon, spent Thursday and Friday in Indianapolis where they attended the trial auto races and visited a museum and enjoyed dining at the Union Station, where Gene and Brandon also played a game of miniature golf. Melissa and Michelle, of South Bend and Kayla Zimmerle, daughter of Barry Zimmerle. of Granger. Aletha Croy’s son. Dick Croy, of South Bend, came Sunday morning and attended church at the Church of Christ with his mother and then took her to his home for dinner where they enjoyed a steak and mushrooms along with his wife. Pt and son. John. A large crowd attended the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Swihart on Sunday afternoon at Greene Township Community Bldg. Their four daughters. Norma, Nancy, Janet and Deanna and their families were all present coming from California, Kentucky. Idaho and surrounding area. They have 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. It was a great day for the Swiharts. Our sympathy this week goes to George and Marie Hively. former residents of North Liberty, who live now on Tamarack Road, near Walkerton, as they lost their son. Larry, this week at his home. Evan and Patty Henry, of Inwood Road, near Mill Creek, entertained the George Henry family along with Calvin and Clara Mae Kronk at a Mother’s Day dinner Sunday. They also celebrated their daughter. Cindy’s 4th birthday and Tom and Darla Fair’s 16th wedding anniversary. So they all had a wonderful day together and one they will not forget. Saturday callers of Gladys Sheneman were her cousins. Bob and Jackie Kenny, of South Bend, who just returned home after spending the winter in Florida. Stan Schiemer, of Osborn Road, returned home Monday from the hospital after being a patient for the past week. Do any of you remember Fawn E. Carter, who was born January 12. 1893 at North Liberty. She was an aunt to Betty Wharton. She was 97 years old and had lived in Cohasset for 80 years. She died on April 23. 1990. The Libbey Funeral Home. Grand Rapids. Michigan, was in charge of the funeral. She had four children. JGHS Spring Sports Awards Night May 31 On Thursday. May 31, at 6:30 p.m., John Glenn High School will hold their annual Spring Sports Awards Night in the high school cafeteria. Athletes participating in Spring sports will be honored. There will not be the usual pot-luck dinner; instead, each family is asked to bring a dessert and their own table service. The beverages will be provided. After the refreshments, the presentation of awards will be made by the Spring coaches. Pictures of all trophy and special award winners will be taken in the gymnasium following the presentation. About half as much hot water is used in the average shower as in the average bath. The first mailboxes were erected in Paris in 1653. However, messengers, fearful for their livelihood, put mice in the boxes to destroy the mail.

Urey Students Compete In Super Bowl On Saturday. May 5, Urey Middle School’s Academic Team competed in the Hoosier Academic Super Bowl at Jimtowm Junior High School. Sixteen area middle schools were at the event and Urey was well represented in each of the five subject areas. The contest is a series of multiple choice questions that are answered by teams of three students in the areas of math, social studies, science, english and all-around.
