JOHN GLENN SCHOOL BOARD (Continued from Page 1) to begin with. Are w-e doing this because wr have run out of space at the elementary level or because it would provide a better educational program? He pointed out that the South Bend Forum on Middle School Trends concluded that sixth grade belongs with the elementary students, not with older students. He concluded by saying that there is a continual feeling on the part of school patrons of not feeling part of the process and that representation is controversial because there is no trust. He asked that issues be discussed more openly by the Board. Jill Davis spoke to the Board as a parent, educator and concerned community member. As a parent she indicated that she was concerned about the loss of a disciplined learning environment in the school corporation and that judgements by teachers were not being properly reviewed and supported

by the Board. She felt that the ultimate consequence of this action would cause quality teachers to consider leaving the school corporation and that the overall quality of the school corporation would be weakened by the employment of less qualified and less experienced teachers. She stated that the reputation of the district has been weakened by the actions and directions of the Board and administration that do not consider the wishes of its constituency. She felt that the policy set by the Board for matters of discipline has resulted in recent problems and reduced teafcher interest and motivation. She stated that positive feedback and the implied support of the administration is important to teachers by communicating that they are appreciated, respected and supported. In closing she asked the Board not what the district can do for them, but what they can do for the district.
