proud to be an American. Congratulations to the winners and we are proud of you. “America-Our Flag" When I see our flag. 1 think of the people who fought and died in the wars and our freedom. I thought of songs like. “The Star Spangled Banner." "My Country Tis of Thee." and "The Pledge of Allegiance." When 1 look at the stars and stripes I think of the fifty states, the thirteen colonies, and the forty-one president^. The red stripes stand for hardiness and courage, the white stripes are the symbol of purity and innocence, and the blue is the color of vigilance, perseverance, and justice. My Dad is in the Armed Forces to protect our country and its rights. Also I think about my uncles and grandparents that were living and fought in the wars. Bcsty Ross made the first American flag so now we can hang it up on Flag Day and the Fourth of July. By Mellisa Lung. 4th grade. “America-Our Flag" The beautiful flag of our wonderful country. America, is an emblem that stands for truth and honesty. A flag that stands for the thirteen colonics and our free fifty states. The flag shows the true meaning of America. A meaning too hard to explain. The flag also has a warm feeling of courage and bravery. This flag makes me proud to be an American. That is why everyday people stand up everywhere and say the "Pledge of Allegiance." By Amanda Grenert. Sth grade. “America-Our Flag” The flag to me means that the United States are free. It represents beauty and honor of our country. The red and white stripes stand for the first original thirteen colonies. The white stars represent the fifty states. It hangs all around the United States. It is in HAVE OUT-OF-STATE BUYER NEED LAKE FRONT LISTINGS Independence Realty 291-6100 Purl Cripe - 506-7510 271260 HUGE WINTER SALE ON LESTER" BUILDINGS. schools and offices. We say the Pledge of Allegience everyday . . .1 pledge allegience to the flag of the United States of America. We say it to show our pride and faith to our country. To me the flag means that I’m free and always will be. It means that people don’t have the rights to tell me what to do. Not all countries are free. People are told what to do. who to see and what to wear. A long time ago people owned other people. These people were called slaves. Then one day a man named Abraham Lincoln came and said all people should be treated the same no matter what color or race. I will always remember that no one could ever own anvone again. We’re all FREE. By Lisa Gingenpeel, Sth grade. “America-Our Flag” I was two years old when I saw it. I saw my first American Flag. When I saw it 1 jumped up and down and yelled in my highest little voice. "Mommy, Mommy. I saw a pretty flag." Just then a man came out and yelled. "Let the celebration begin." Then a group of people came out. they picked up the flag and walked around. I thought to myself. "I wish I could dothat." I could. I picked up my little plastic flag and started marching around. What a grand sight. After I sat back down the fireworks started. 0000. Oh. Pretty. It was now quite dark, but I didn’t seem to care. The fireworks lit up the sky so it looked quite a bit like day now. Finally, the end came, there in glowing flames was the great American Flag. Everyone cheered as loud as they could. Even I cheered as loud as I could in my highest, squeakiest little voice. "Yea for the American Flag." Ever since then I have remembered the flag in everything I see or do. "I love you America." By Gail Ferency. sth grade. “America-Our Flag” Our American Flag is a sign of freedom to all Americans. long ago there was the end of the Civil War at Fort McHenry, three Americans were caught out on a little ship, who had to watch as Fort McHenry battled and battled to keep it’s stand. One was Francis Scott Key. He wrote the song. "The Star Spangled Banner.” He was inspired to write this song about the flag while he was on the boat. imagine what it would be like if your were a man caught out on a boat helpless, nothing you could do to help end the fighting. Waiting for some miraculous thing to happed, so you could go back to your home. The only thing that would let him know, he decided, whether the son surrendered or not would be found out in the morning. If that wonderful flag would fly high in the sky or not. With it’s stars representing free states. The red stripes representing the blood shed to keep his freedom. In the morning the flag flew proudly. He was free. THAT WONDER FUL FLAG. By Kara Holmes.
