Saturday morning to learn of the death of Florence .lones, who lived at <>4819 Indiana 23. She was 7 2 and died of a heart attack. She moved to our area in 194 U from Wisconsin. She leaves 3 children and her sister. Beatrice Shencman. Our sympathy goes to the family. Delmas Burch, a 10 year veteran of the North l iberty police department will replace Richard Bliley as our new town Marshall. He will be in charge of several part-time officers. Mrs. Ben Souslev has sold her home on State Road 4 Fast and is moving to Bremen Manor, in Bremen. We wish her well. Kathryn Feece of Primrose Road, returned home Friday after spending the past three months in Wanatchee. Washington visiting her daughter, Bonnie Decker and
family. She also spent sometime with Everett and Francis Rat/sch. her very gtx»d friends. Dinner guests Sunday of Gene and Norma Patrick were Gladys Shencman and Brandon Stull. Kate Hovel, well remembers when the locker plant burned down. Devore .lones lived up over the plant and owned it in the early 50’s. Then Ted Hevcl purchased it and remodeled it and his son. Don. managed it. Many had food and meats stored in the lockers and I am told that Nettie Arnsbarger took hers home and canned it. I remember we went to Hummers at Lakeville and bought a freezer and would you believe it is still running today. Frank Patrick also had a butcher shop there. How many remember that? All I can remember is that we did sell fryers there to someone, but don't remember who. Gail and Mae McDaniel returned home Sunday evening after spending the last two weeks visiting relatives. They spent some time in South Carolina with Gail's sister. Fontcll and her husband. David Spellman and also visited in the home of their son. Curtis and family , in Richmond. Indiana. I read in the "remember when" back in 1955 when we had 12-15 inches of snow on March 19. All traffic was stranded at Welco from Road b. We dressed fryers for stores and restaurants back then and Welco called and said thev were out of meat and needed 150 chickens soon as we could get them dressed over there. I will never forget that snow storm and seeing so many trucks and truckers at Welco at one time. A large crowd attended the Tri Kappa Spring Fever fashion show with models from North Liberty showing the new spring fashions from Levines, of La Porte. Many won prizes donated b\ the merchants and others in the area who have their own bussincsscs. All enjoyed the delicious buffet salad bar at the new North Liberty Community Center. Congratulations to Corey White, whose art drawing won her first place ranking in Indiana for the L’.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service Poster contest of the drawing of the Statue of Liberty. 200 others across the state had sent in posters, so we compliment you on the great essay you wrote on "What being an American means to me." We wish you well in your art class. About 160 men and boys from the Church of Christ, in the area attended the Master Men’s dinner and program held Friday evening in North Liberty. Alan Limerick was in charge of the meeting with Dav Break singing songs of praise after which Rev. Richard .lones of Countryside Church in Michigan City, gave the message. Aletha Croy spent Thursday and Friday taking care of her little great granddaughter. Serena Spencer, daughter of Tons and Lisa Spencer, of South Bend. Remember Tuesday . SPRING FLING The annual "Spring Fling" sponsored by the St. Joseph County Extension Homemakers will be held Tuesday. April 24 at St. Hedwig’s Memorial Center. Registration is at 6:00 p.m. with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. The program includes recognition of the past years achievements of the Extension Homemakers and a performance by the Extension Homemakers County Chorus. The special program will feature "Weddings of the Decades" with a style show of w edding dresses from each decade. The Historical Society will have historical wedding dresses on display.
