Boards Association as a direct affiliate. Mr. Harvey also discussed with the Board the fact that school had been cancelled on Thursday. February 15 and that a make-up day would need to be scheduled. He pointed out that this had been discussed in Discussion Committee and it was suggested that in view of the fact that over 90 percent of the faculty staff members have completed their in-service education requirements that school be scheduled on the in-service day on April 27. This would allow school to end on the dates that are scheduled. In the event that additional days are missed, this option will be dropped and the additional days will be added after Memorial Dav. On the issue of the calender. Mr. Harvey stated that the Discussion Committee was close to finalization of a calendar for the 1990-91 school year. In response to a question from Mr. Ludwig concerning the status of the bleachers at the high school. Mr. Harvey indicated that the school corporation was awaiting a report from the engineer who had inspected the bleachers. He did indicate that it is likely that the school corporation will need to replace the bleachers and would be proceeding to that as soon as the financial aspects can be worked out. It is estimated that the cost of new bleachers would be approximately $135,000 with only $15,000 in the Capital Projects Emergency Fund to assist in the payment. The additional SI2O,(XX) will have to be found elsewhere in the budget. Given the overall problems with cashflow, it was suggested that the bid specifications might be developed that would allow deferred payment through December 31. 1990. Mr. Harvey indicated that before this would be included in the bid specifications, he would need to prusue this concept with John Peddycord. Schixil Board Attorney. 5. Curriculum Guide. a. tary, middle and high school language arts were presented to the Board along with those for high school foreign language. Mr. Harvey pointed out that the curriculum guides were the result of a great deal of work on the part of the classroom teachers in these areas with particular praise to the teachers at Urey Middle School who had completely revised the middle school language arts curriculm. He pointed out that the new curriculum guides had been revised with the Indiana Department of Education Curriculum Proficiency Guide in mind. In addition, input for the curriculm guides has been received from Sharon Klinedinst. Computer Coordinator, so that the curriculum guides will reflect the integration of computer software. Software is now available that allows the use of computers in the regular classroom to teach subjects beyond the areas of computer literacy and programming. Mr. Harvey stated that this was an area that needed to be expanded and that as curriculum guides are reviewed, this would be included in the future. He concluded the presentation of the curriculum guides by suggesting that the Board review these carefully and that they would be presented on the next Board meeting for approval. Following approval of the curriculum guides, these would be compiled with the curriculum guides that had been revised last year into a school corporation curriculum manual.
