FALCONS UPSET TIPPY VALLEY 77-67 FRIDAY The John Glenn Falcons closed their regular season on a very positive note Friday night as they traveled to Tippecanoe Valley High School and defeated the high-flying Vikings 77-67. The win not only boosted the Falcons to a fine 16-3 record it had to give them momentum going into this week’s sectional at Plymouth. The Vikings were on a long winning streak and in the previous two weeks had defeated three of the key rivals in the Plymouth tourney, the host Pilgrims. LaVillc and Bremen, all by gixxl margins. The game was a free scoring one from the start. The Falcons took a first quarter lead of 24-21 and at halftime enjoyed a 44-41 margin. The pace was up tempo, but both teams responded well. In the second half, the hosts managed to pull ahead but all through the early going were getting into a little foul trouble which would be a factor before the game was over. TVS led 56 52 heading in the final eight minutes. Fouls and the free throw line were the difference in the final quarter. The Falcons outscored their hosts 25-11. which included 11 out of 15 from the stripe. This carried them on to the "7-67 victory. Scoring balance was a key for Glenn. Five plavers scored in double figures while the sixth, a starter, totaled nine. Pontius led the way with 15. Chris and Kevin Stedman each had 14. Stull 13 off the bench with II coming in the final period, and Charlie Winger had 10. For the losers. Thompson took game honors with 20 and Dußois had 14. Despite the loss, the B-Team ended with a fine 16-5 record. The hosts got off to a slow start as the Falcons led 10-4 after on quarter but TVS had gained the lead 21-17 by halftime and moved on to the 56-48 victory. Walls had 19 points to top all scorers while Huizenga and 12. TVS had three in double figures with Hunter. Bussard and Leintngman having 13. 12 and 10 respective! v. Howard Score By Quarters Glenn 10 17 31 48 TVS 4 21 36 56 UREY 7TH GRADE GIRLS WIN IN OVERTIME Ihe Urey "th grade girls captured their first win of the season bv defeating Oregon-Davis bv the score of 34-29 Tracy Legge had a great game rebounding, as well as scoring 16 points. Renee Fisher and Stacie Aldrich score 8 and 6 respectively. Anittah Patrick also scored to round out the scoring. The girls are 1-3. They will be in action again on February 2" when they play at LaPorte Kesling at 5:15 and at LaVille on March 1 at 4:30. The team will be at North Liberty Elementary tourney on March 3 starting at 9:00 am. Teams competing in the tourney will be Urey playing Jimtown and New Prairie and South Central all playing at 9:00 a.m. The championship game will be played at 1:00 p.m. UREY LADY FALCONS UP-END O-D 29-13 The Urey Lady Falcons recorded their second straight win of the season against onlv one loss with a 29-13 decision of Oregon-Davis in eigth grade girls basketball action Thursday at the local gym. After a sluggish stan. the Lady Falcons turned an 8-5 first quarter deficit into an 11-8 halftime advantage. The local girls led 11-10 early in the third period before going on a 16-1 run to put the game out of reach. Urey held an 18-10 lead at the third stop. The Falcon's Christy Werner led all scorers with 10 points. Trish Rough and Dara Cisney added 9 and 4 points, respectively , for the winners while Julie Paschen. Laura Bostwick and Dawn Rhodes completed the scoring with two points apiece. Shock led Oregon-Davis with 7 tallies. Coach Dan Hutton cited Werner for her outstanding all around play. He was also pleased with Cisney's play and felt that 16 days between games with limited practice time accounted for the locals sluggish start. REAL SERVICES NEWS Eleanor Ludwig. Hazel Schweder. Jim Thibodeaux, and Verice Walz served as our chairpersons. Joe Grzegork from the REAL Services office in South Bend chaired on Thursday and explained about the cut in our meals allowance. Iva Kring, our site director, has given notice that March 30th will be her last day as director. Any-a one interested in this position should contact Iva and ask for an application. On the brighter side, we had some interesting programs last week and we wish to thank a lot of people for their help. Thanks to Mane Kerchaert for donating two of her mouth watering pies which we raffled off to raise money for our petty cash fund. Winners were Moe W'alker and Virgil Gwin. Thanks too. to Rose Minter who donated a box of crackers that we
served with our soup and to Bettv Clapper who made and served some of her famous cookies. Thanks, Jim Thibodeaux, for repairing our clock and making our signs, and also thanks to Rose Taylor for bringing in strawberries that we gave away for door prizes to Dwight Burch and the lucks one. With 19 ladies and 15 gents, the lanes were almost full, but there was room for just a few more! The Ladies had a fine competitive day. with the pins falling nicely for them. High scratch game was Merle Bruesch’s 181. followed bv Mildred McKesson’s 165 and Liz Moreau's and Jo W'osniak's tie of 164. High handicap game was

Moreau's 228, with Wosniak posting a 227 and Bruesch a 226 for some very tight competition. High series total was Bruesch’s 439, followed by McKesson’s 413 and Betty Shrader s 409 totals. Way to go. Ladies! The Gents had a fair day, with a couple of close contests. Marion Anderson’s high scratch game of 201 set the pace for the Gents. It was followed by Harold Schweder’s 195 and Roman Brehm’s 190 games. Anderson's high handicap game was 235, with Claude Nowakowski rolling a 227 and Brehm a 225 total.
