Back row. left to right: Coach The Urey 7th grade basketball team concluded its season on Saturday, after three games last week. Urey defeated Bremen 51 -32 on Tuesday. The Falcons blew the game open in the third quarter outscoring Bremen 22-2 during that period. Leading scorers for Urey were Kaiser. Wiegand. and Mark with 12. 11. and 10 points respectively. North Liberty Karen Medlin was quite surprised when her husband. Joe. took her to the banquet room at Tippecanoe Place for her 50th birthday, she was greeted by her whole family. Those attending were Joe’s mother. Mrs. Ruby Banks, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Wharton. Mr. and Mrs. Rod Mcßride. Garrett. Rachael and Justine. Miss Wendy Medlin. Miss Carolee Medlin and Jim Shoue. After dinner we all went to the Wharton home for ice cream and cake and Karen opened her gifts. Also joining for refreshments were Carol Adkins and her granddaughter, Jessica. A good time was had by all and we think Karen still thinks its “nifty to be fifty.” Alex and Pauline Laskowski spent Saturday at Turkey Run where they attended a meeting of the Indiana World Organization of China Painters. It was a special meeting called in which they will sponsor the Indiana Porcelain Art School, to be held at the Anderson University. Pauline was elected as one of the directors. She is past president of the I W.O.C.P of the LaPortre Porcelain Artist. She does beautiful work, as I have seen many of her paintings. A good friend of mine. Mable Zehner. of Koontz Lake, who is recovering from heart surgery, recently celebrated her birthday on Saturday. January 27. at the Streamline Restaurant, in Rochester. Her daughter. Karen and her daughter. Shelly, of North Liberty and her other daughter. Sue SheSheaks and daughter. Brenda, of Plymouth took her to this lovelyrestaurant to enjoy her birthday with her. After dinner they all went to Brenda's new apartment, in Plymouth, where they all enjoyed ice cream and cake. Eldon Clark spent last Monday in St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago, where he had tests and X-rays on his knee, which is giving him such pain ever since he had surgerv on it last September. Mr. and Mrs. Don Noel took them to Chicago. So please remember Eldon that he can find relief somehowr. Vylet Baker returned to her own home Saturday in Walkerton, after spending the past few weeks in Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home. Walkerton. Many of you readers will remember Zeno and Mary Miller, former residents of this area, who now live with their daughter, Jean, in Evanston. Illinois. For some time Zeno has been confined to a nursing home. Mary goes everyday to help care for him. She writes that Jean is much improved now. as she has been suffering with polymylgia rhumatica. He was married to Mane Schmeltz. daughter of Fred and Nellie Schmeltz. near Walker ton. They lived in Buchanan. Michigan. So our sympathy goes to Mane and her family. Remember Tuesday, February 6. from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. is when the retired neighbors and friends get together at the Community Building to play bingo and greet all our friends once again. Be sure to bring a bingo prize, something you make, something from the grocery store or something your just don't want anymore. The naturalist out at Potato Creek State Park have a big day planned for Saturday at 9:00 a.m. They have a park patch and will tell you how you can earn it. At 10:30 am., they will tell you all about owls, at the nature center and then at 2:00 p.m., at the auditorium, they will show slides of the history of Potato Creek and how it was started.
