Lady Falcons To Play New Prairie Thursday The John Glenn Lady Falcons will meet the New Prairie Cougars in their first game of the 1990 sectional basketball tourney. The two teams will meet on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. with the winner of this game moving right into the finals on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. All games will be played at the La Ville High School. LaVille, the tourney favorite and defending champion, will meet Plymouth on Wednesday night at " OOp m. The w inner of this game will advance to Thursday's second game against Argos. The two Thursday winners will then battle it out for the championship and the right to advance to the Elkhart Regional the following week FALCONS ROLL OVER JIMTOWN 79*50 FRIDAY The John Glenn Falcons rolled to their I hh win of the season against two losses Friday night as they defeated the visiting Jimtown Jimmies 79-50 in a Northern State Conference game. The win raised their NSC record to 5-0 setting up the key battle with Bremen on Saturday night, perhaps for the conference title. The Falcons led all the way over the Jimmies, winning just once this season. It was 18-10 after one period and the Falcons held this lead and slowly expanded it as they really broke the game open in the second half. Charlie Winger had 22 points for the victors and Kevin Stedman added 20. Kevin Winger hit double figures with 12 as nine of the 10 Falcons shared in the scoring. Recently in Orlando. Florida, the St. Joseph County Farm Bureau. Inc., presented a check in the amount of $500.00 to the South Carolina Farm Bureau. This check is to help the people in Berkley County in the hurricane Hugo disaster that hit in September.
Announce K of C Free Throw Winners Ten boys and girls from Walkerton and North Liberty, aged 10-14. were named local champions of the 1990 Knights of Columbus International Free Throw Championship and have earned the right to compete next at the regional level. Council #5709 in Walkerton sponsored the local competition at North Liberty Elementary. All youngsters from ages 10 to 14 were eligible to participate. Cassie Walter was the 10 year old girl's champion and Jason Potts was the winner of the 10 year old boys division. In the 11 year old bracket of the competition. Elaine Davidson was the girls champion and Matthew Kulbicda was the boy’s champion. Twelve year old winners in the girl's and boy’s division were Jennifer Annis and Tony Lidgard. The thirteen year old girls division was won by Anittah Patrick and the boy’s by Landon Weigand. Fourteen year old champions included Tami Lidgard in the girl's bracket and Toby Gardner in the boys. Each contestant was allowed 15 free throw attempts in the contest and ties were settled by successive rounds of five free throws per contestant until a winner emerged. rhe Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually by the K of C and consists of aimpetition at the local, district and state level. International champions are determined based on scores at the stateaimpetitions. Last year more than 161,000 boys and girls participated in 2.132 local competitions.
