Sixty south encircled the young at-heart at North Liberty's REAL Services site on Wednesday. October 25. The three classes of North Liberty Elementary first graders led by their teachers. Mr. Richard Binkley. Mrs. Ann Cambhn and Mrs. Linda Murphy plus student teacher Mrs. Carole Alspaugh. sang pumpkin carols and recited two Halloween poems. This is the second year that the first graders have visited their older friends. Last year many of GIRL SCOUTS EXPAND IN THE AREA Girl Scout membership in the John Glenn area has expanded since the September rally. Bolstered by their newly formed scrvice unit and favored by local sponsorship. the Girl Scouts of Walkerton and North Liberty have organized five Brownie Troops and one Junior I roop. Sponsoring the Girl Scouts are Ra\ At Kenny 's Super Valu. Mar sha's Petals. Plants and Potpourri □nd the Walkerton United Methodist Church. The Girl Scouts arc grateful that these sponsors arc helping make possible their community minded program. As the theme for their booth at the Walkerton Fall Festival, the girls chose "Girl Scouts Take The Lead And Fight Drugs". The girls carried picket signs: "Say YES' to Life and 'NO' to Drugs". They passed out anti-drug stickers and collected 130 signatures on their drug free pledge.

ihe adults in the program responded to the children’s handmade Christmas cards and Valentines by sending letters and cards to the school. We look forward to many more visits to our most appreciative audience at REA I Services. Thanks to Becky Burch for allowing us to make this our project. First graders pictured are Jessica Futa. Their prize signature was that of John Hilcr who has been conferring with local authorities about the spread of drugs in St. Joseph County. Congressman Hilcr cosponsored National Red Ribbon Week, in which the Girl Scouts participated. From November 10-2 b. the Girl Scouts will be taking orders for cookies io help fund their activities We're hoping that our communities will be as generous this year as they have in the past.
