The campers were extremely fortunate in “being in the right place at the right time”. Manv local citizens of Indiana (India) parentage ancestery were celebrating the Hindu festival of Navaratri. This is a religious celebration of 10 days of dancing and feasting. It is a truly joyous time of beginning the light of the new moon and the start of the Hindu New Year. The ladies were dressed in the beautiful saris and the men wore the long white coats and white trousers. The dancing was graceful and exotic and so unusual to watch. After the dancing the Good Sams were invited to join the celetrams “at the table”. Don and Sue Guard accepted the invitation and ate the traditional dishes. (The younger Indian celebrants ate pizza!) The people were most charming and gracious in their hospitality and the ceremony certainly “put the cap” on a great weekend for all. A final campout is planned for Chain-O-Lakes State Park October 27-29 and Halloween will be the theme. Any camper wishing more information regarding Good Sam or Chapter 44 may call 656-4507.
