Kimberly Ann Taylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Taylor, of Walkerton, was selected as the 1989 Marshall County 4-H Queen. The candidates are selected through a speech. 4-H achievement records and an interview with the judges. This is the first year that Marshall County has been represented at the Indiana State Fair Queen Pageant. catcd on the State Fairgrounds, Indianapolis. YOUTH BOWLING SEASON TO BEGIN SOON Shady Lanes, in Walkerton, announces that the 1989-90 Youth Bowling season will start soon. Youth sign-up for ages five to 18 will be at Walkerton Shady Lancs on September 2 and 9. from 9:30

a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with the 24-week season to begin on September 16, at 9:30 a.m. One hour of free instruction will be givn to all registrants on the 2nd and 16th when they sign-up. Coach Donna Wood just returned from Ohio where she attended a Coaches Clinic where instruction was given to teaching youth and instructing more advanced participants in the sport of bow ling. Mrs. Wood now holds certificates in both coach and instructing from the National Bowling Council in Washington. D.C. In the 1988-89 participants at Shady Lanes youth program distinguished themselves and their community by winning awards in the South Bend City Tournament, Indiana State Tournament, Holiday Doubles Tournament and the State Family Twosome Tournament. The following is a list of the first place recipients, Kelsey Wallace and Susan Eddinger received a first in the South Bend Tournament fore their handicap score in Division C Girls Doubles. Kelsey also received a first with a scratch score in girls singles and a first for her scratch score in all events. Heather Creech and Shane Nieubuurt received a first for their handicap score in Division E mixed doubles. In the mixed team category with scratch scores used a first was received by Melissa Ream. Heather Creech. Mike Greene. Nathan Cripe and Brad Nieubuurt. their team sponsor throughout the year was Dave’s Video Zoo. Veronica Kennedy and Chad Hostetler received a first place in the Junior Division Mixed Division in the state-wide Holiday Doubles Tournament. At the State YABA Tournament this spring, in Anderson. Kelsey Wallace,. Christina Crane, Veronica Kennedy, Jason Parker and Boyd Risner took first in Division D mixed team handicap. This coming year promses to be bigger and better For more information parents may call 5863850. 4-H BEEF CARCUS RESULTS The results of the Marshall County 4-H Beef Carcass class have been announced. Eight beef animals were enrolled at the fair and the carcasses were processed at Kingsbury Locker. The winner was a crossbred steer shown by Jason Verhaeghe, of Polk Township. Jason’s steer weighed 1190 pounds and had a rib eye area of 14.4 square inches. Jessice Verhaeghe ranked seventh. sold to the public at a cost of $3.00 each. The first duck to reach the finish line will be paid $100.00; second place duck will receive $50.00; and the third place duck will be awarded $25.00. There will be up to 30 additional prizes so if your duck is within the first 30 to cross the finish line you too can win a prize. The judges decision will be final, ties will divide the prize money. If your duck would happen to float into shore it can be moved out into the channel, by race officials only, but the move can not make them closer to the finish line. FISHING CONTEST AT FISH LAKE AUGUST 26 A two-day fishing contest and benefit will be held on August 26 and 27 at the Fish Lake Conservation Club. A total of $900.00 in prize money will be awarded. Registration is at the Conservation clubhouse. Both mornings a breakfast will be available beginning at 6:00 a.m. On Saturday the menu consists of biscuits, sausage and gravy and will be available until 11:00 a.m. Sandwiches will be available throughout the day. On Sundav breakfast of pancakes, sausage and eggs will be served until 11:30 a.m. At 11:30 a.m. there will be a parade and at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday night bingo will be plaved. On Sunday, at 2:00 p.m., the fishing contest winners will be declared with prizes awarded.
