Scholarships Awarded Two J. G. Students Becky Fain, a senior at John Glenn High School, was awarded a SIO,OOO scholarshisp and Eric Wielosinski. a junior at John Glenn, was awarded a $500.00 scholarship to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design, in Savannah, Georgia. These awards were based on work shown in a Scholastic Art Awards regional exhibition. The national Scholastic Art Awards program is conducted annually by Scholastic, Inc., an educational publisher, to recognize the talents of outstanding junior and senior high school artists and their teachers. The awards are co-spon-sored by Hallmark. Inc. and the Strathmore Paper Company. Six-ty-two regional exhibitions are held each year, from which work is chosen to go on to national competition. The Savannah College of Art and Design awards scholarships to deserving students in all 62 regions, in addition to being the single largest regional sponsor of the Scholastic Art Awards. SCAD is an independent, non-profit, private institution accredited by the Commission on Colleges. Southern Association of Colleges and the Schools, and is ranked in the top 10 percent of all colleges nationwide by Peterson’s Competitive Colleges. SCAD grants Bachelor
of Architecture. Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees in architecture, fiber arts, graphic design, historic preservation. illustration, interior design, painting, photography and video. The national Scholastic Art Awards exhibition is currently being held in the Massachusetts State Transport Building in Boston, Mass., and will run through the month of August. Holmes announced August 1 that half year license plate fees took effect as of August I. Vehicles with the following plate types are involved: trucks 16.000 pounds and over, farm trucks 16.000 pounds and over, tractors, farm semi tractors, trailers, farm trailers, semi trailer (one year), buses. plates purchased in August are renewable in February of the following year if the owner wishes to operate that vehicle during the next six month period. Half year license plates are sold for half the cost of full year plates and are available through local license branches throughout the state. The availability of the option for half year license plates is one way in which the Bureau of Motor Vehicles is striving to continue its efforts to improve customer service. The half year plate allows for a more economical means to license those vehicles which qualify for the program.
