The Walkerton High School Class of 1939 met at the Holiday Inn. Plymouth, for their 50th reunion on Saturday, July 1, with 14 members present. In all there were 22 present for the dinner.

Bennett Johnston, of Shreveport, Louisiana, announce the engagement of their daughter, Sarah Lee, of McLean. Virginia, to Timothy John Roemer, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Anthony Roemer, of Mishawaka. The bride-elect is a graduate of Tulane University-Sophie Newcomb College, New Orleans, where she obtained her bachelor of arts degree in French and communications. From 1985-86 she spent one year at the Sorbonne, in Paris, France, studying French. She recently completed a year of study at Georgetown University, Washington. D.C., where she was working toward a master’s degree in international relations. She is a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She is presently employed as an associate with Dutko and Associates in Washington. D.C.

The prospective groom is a graduate of Penn High School, Mishawaka; bachelor of arts degree in political science and received his master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Notre Dame majoring in government and international affairs. From 1985 through June of 1989 he has worked in Washington, D.C. for Senator Dennis Deconcini, of Arizona, as a legislative assistant for foreign affairs, trade and defense issues. partment, Starke Home Health Care and the Hamlet Lions Club are sponsoring a diabetic screening clinic at the Starke County 4-H Fair Tuesday, July 18 and Thursday, July 20. Hours are from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The diabetic screening will be held in the commercial building at the Starke County Fairgrounds, Hamlet. There will be no charge for the test. “SUPER CHRISTIAN’’ FILM TO BE SHOWN ‘Super Christian”, a film, will be presented in two parts on Sundays, July 16 and 23, at 6:00 p.m. at the Lakeville Christian Church. Please come and join us for a movie the whole family will enjoy. About the only thing you can do on a shoestring anymore is trip.
