WHAT’S HAPPENING 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATIONS At North Liberty the Community Building Association is sponsoring a Nelson’s Golden Glow Port-A-Pit chicken barbecue, at the park, beginning at 11:00 a.m. At 2:00 p.m. is the annual 4th of July Parade sponsored by the Volunteer Fire Department and then at dark will be the fireworks display. In Walkerton on the 4th of July the Wabash Valley Shows are set up in Place Park with rides all day and evening. A talent show will be held at 2:00 p.m. Ellis Swihart, hypnotist, will entertain at 5:00 p.m. At 6:30 p.m. the Walkerton American Legion Post 189 will hold the flag retreat ceremony and at 7:00 p.m. the Gospel Boys will sing. Approximately at 9:00 p.m. there will be many drawings followed by the annual fireworks display. FIREFLY FESTIVAL The Firefly Festival celebrates the Fourth of July weekend with world renowned folk singers, fun and fireworks, on Saturday, July 1. Picnics, blankets and lawn chairs will fill the hillside at St. Patrick’s County Park for family entertainment in the Independence Day tradition. BATTLE OF TIPPECANOE The Battle of Tippecanoe Outdoor Drama is played in the $4.5 million Tippecanoe County Amplitheater which seats 1,511 people for performances six nights a week through August 27. The 166-acre grounds also include a box office, cast house and corral for the four horses who appear on stage. CHOLESTROL TREATMENT PROGRAM AT LAPORTE Eater’s Choice, a new program aimed at reducing cholesterol and the risk of heart attack, will begin at LaPorte Hospital on Thursday, July 6. Based on guidelines released by the National Institutes of Health, Eater’s Choice follows the NIH finding that the best way to attach high blood cholestrol is first through dietary change. Consisting of six l'/i hour sessions that will be led by Michele Wise, R.D., LaPorte Hospital, participants in Eater’s Choice will learn how to develop their own guidelines for the amount of saturated fat they can eat and how to adhere to those guidelines when shopping, preparing food or dining out.
