Mr. and Mrs. Clell Fouts spent Monday of this week in Indianapolis visiting with Mr. Hamid Rust, a former resident of Walkerton. Mr. and Mrs. George Matz, of Shcboygon, Wisconsin, is here visiting for a fev days with his sister. Mrs. Pauline Klopfenstein. Mr. and Mrs. Leigh Roy Hahn. Sr.. Mrs. Goldie Skinner. Catherine Hahn and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hahn and two sons, of Plymouth, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Leigh Roy Hahn. Jr., and family, in North Judson. A chicken barbecue dinner and homemade ice cream was enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Dipert will serve as hosts for the Koontz Lake Conservation Club dinner meeting on Saturday evening, at 5:30 p.m. Mrs. Ruth Cilery and her daughter. Mrs. Robert Mercer, were in Valparaiso, on Sunday afternoon, to visit with Mrs. Ullery's brother. Mr. Glade Wislcr. TWO ARE HONORED WITH BIRTHDAY PARTY Lydia Collings. 75, and Bob Vermilyer. bO. were honored with a birthday party on Saturday. March 18. at the Odd Fellows Hall. Walkerton. Mrs. Collings is a sister of Sam Cable. F.ighty-three guests were in attendance coming from Georgia. Texas. Tennessee and Indiana. HOLD BRIDAL SHOWER A bridal shower was held on Saturday. April 1. for Lon Ann Fugate at the Walkerton Wesleyan Church. Some 40 guests enjoyed lunch, games and fellowship. Guests came from Winamac. LaPorte. Kingsford Heights. Hamlet and Walkerton. Lori will become the bride of Tim Jessie on July I, at the Kingsford Heights Wesleyan Church, at 4:00 p m. LAPORTE HOSPITAL CELEBRATES "NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK” LaPorte Hospital, tn celebration of "National Hospital Week". April 9-15. has planned a variety of activities to acknowledge its volunteers and work they provide. Volunteers will receive complimentary meal passes for the LaPorte Hospital cafeteria. Members of the hospital s management staff will spend time with volunteers during "Side by-Side" Day. learning what the volunteers do and what each job entails On Fridas. April 14. a special Open House ts planned for 2:00 • 4:00 p.m. in the hospital cafeteria for all active volunteers. Currently, approximately 310 volunteer* work in 25 different areas of LaPorte Hospital During 1988. volunteers donated a total 43.000 hours of serv ice. The hospital Auxiliary volunteers. in addition to the services provided, also make annual donations to the hospital. In 1988. the Auxiliary donated $45,000 (including a $5,000 payment to the hospital Foundation's Endowment Campaign).

EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS SPRING FUNG The annual "Spring Fling" sponsored by the St. Joseph County Extension Homemakers will be held on April 18th at St. Hedwig's Memorial Center. Registration is at 6:00 p.m. with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. The program will recognize the past year's achievements of the Extension Homemakers excerpts from Sense And Mom Sense by Therese Bloomingdale and a performance by the Extension Homemakers County Chorus. County Sheriff’s Deputy jMHSS I JBK ■ |_ E Zane Hathaway, son of Laura and the late John Hathaway, of Route 1. Walkerton, is a recent graduate of Academy Class No. 249 Los Angeles County. Los Angeles. California. Zane graduated with a class of 119 officers and received special recognition for expert marksmanship. Sheriff Sherman Block offered his congratulations to the graduating officers and expressed his appreciation to the families of the graduates for plaving such an important role in the successful completion of the vigorous academy curriculum by the graduates. There were 24.000 applicants and the sheriff stated he could not over emphasize the careful screen mg his department undertakes, to bring to the community law enforcement officers whom they feel could best accept the tremendous responsibilities. Zane completed six years at St. Patrick's School, attended John Glenn High School and graduated from Fastern Oregon State University. at LaGrande, Oregon Zane and his wife. Bronwyn, reside at Long Beach. California. REAL SERVICES NEWS Hazel Schweder was program chairman on Monday followed by
Fred Bullinger on Tuesdav. Fred gave away some of his homemade rolls and Ivy Tyge and Gayle Mafield were the lucky winners. Nutrition Awareness Week was also celebrated on Tuesday. The theme being lifetime decisions and stressing exercises along with good nutrition. Mary Hahn had charge of the program on Wednesday and she had us all enjoying the hokey pokey and more bingo. Thursday was a very special dav for us and over ''O meals were served. We celebrated our first anniversary! Our dining room was festive with balloons, flowers and spring colors. Joe Grezgorek. REAL Services coordinator from South Bend, was on hand to welcome all and complimented Iva Kring and her core of volunteers. Violet Wolfe entertained with her violin. Ruth Ullcry made two lovely anniversary cakes which were enjoyed by all. We especially want to thank Ivy Tyge for furnishing candies for the tables. John Spellman for bringing lily bulbs and sharing them with us, Ruth Ullery for baking the cakes and to Violet Wolff and her accompanist who furnished the music. Verice Walz chaired the program on Friday and we all enjoyed her piano playing. Juice winners for the week were Lloyd Lemert, Eleanor Ludwig, Max Wolfe. Ellen Cochran, Marv Cable and Leon McKesson. Iva Kring, site director, would like to thank all the people at the site for always being ready to help and she also wants to thank everyone for the gift certificate which was given to her at the anniversary party and to REAL Services office in South Bend for the card. SENIOR BOWLING NEWS With two more weeks of bowling, the Seniors were still enjoying their sport this past week April 12. will close the season for them. A small buffet is planned to be served immediately following bowling that dav. On that dav only, bowling will start at I 30 p.m., to allow time for "dean-up" of the alleys for incoming evening bowlers. Preregistration is requested to allow management information as to how much to prepare for the buffet. The ladies really had a most competitive afternoon, as the scores indicate. June Baker's high scratch game of 165 led the group. June Lind and Liz Moreau both rolled 148 games and was closely followed bv Mildred McKesson's 138. There was a three way tie for high handicap game. Baker. Lind and Moreau all had 218 totals. Irene Gjemre followed closelv with 214 and McKesson had 206. Baker's 437 high series total topped Bettv Schrader’s 385 and McKesson's 3"6 The ladies really do make those pins fly. The gents also had some close scoring. High scratch game went to Roman Brehm's 201. closely followed by Marion Anderson's 197 and Harold Schweder s 189. High handicap game also went to Brehm’s 242. followed by Anderson’s 234 and Barney Hiester’s 233. High series total was Anderson's 542. followed by Schweder's 518. These were the only totals above the 500 mark Remember April 12. will be the last session for the Senior Bowlers this season. If you wish to attend the buffet, please register by April 5. Payment at time of registration is also requested.
