The guest artist for this year's Tri Kappa Fine Arts Festival is local resident and amateur artist, Joyce Daube. Her love for nature, country life and simpler times are portrayed in her colorful oils that will be on display. Joyce (Vander Vcldon) Daube moved into the Walkerton area with her parents and family in 19 7 2. in her senior year of high school, from LaPorte. She has been dabbling in oils since I^"^ under the instruction of Marilyn Kruger, of Akron. Indiana, with a group of aspiring oil painters. Always having the desire to paint, this finally opened the door for her natural artistic abilities. Artists Eric Sloane and Marily Kruger are her two greatest influences. She shares Sloane's love of the past, old bams and simpler times and admires Kruger’s realis-

tic painting technique and use of color. Beginning as a hobby to create gifts for relatives by painting from pictures of their choice, Daube is now creating her own "originals”, working from photographs she has taken or those taken by her brother or those taken by a good friend. William Ralston, who are both good photographers. Joyce states the more she paints, the more ideas for future paintings evolve. She also realizes the endless and continuous learning process involved and that she only has just begun that process. Joyce is married to Douglas Daube who farms with his father. Donald. The Daubes have two children. Justin. 8. and Jessica. 5. and live in the country southeast of Walkerton. Juggling housework,

yardwork. gardening, raising children. and coping with some health problems, limits Joyce's time for painting but she plans for "seri ous’’ painting in the future. Daube is a member and past secretary for Heartland Artists, a local independent group organized in 1985. to promote area artists. Joyce's goals are to participate in the Hoosier Salon in 1990 or 1991 and to someday compete in the Duck Stamp competitions and to keep on participating in local art competitions in which she has won several awards. She would also like to learn portrature, would like to study under John Thomas, and possibly in the future teach others her know ledge of oil painting. Her immediate goals are to paint, paint, paint!
