Norma Corbett has returned to her home after recovering from surgery at St. Joseph Medical Center, in South Bend. Mrs. Ruth Hughes, South Bend, spent from Wednesday to Monday at the home of her sister. Mrs. Bertha Urbin. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dipert have returned home from a two month trip to California. They spent a week at Christmas at Grass Valley. California, at their granddaughter's Cathi Travis, and great-grandchildren. Christy and Lance. The rest of the time was spent at their daughters and son-in-law. Arlene and John Affel, at Thousand Oaks. California. All enjoyed a three day trip to Las Vegas. Lots of time was spent with their grandson and wife. Rick and Kin Larimore, who also took them to Las Vegas from where they flew home Mrs. Helen Cowood will be hosting the Koontz Lake Conservation Club dinner meeting, on Saturday evening, at the clubhouse. Mrs. Vera Hornung and her daughter, Mrs. Jackie Sink, of Burlington. lowa, along with Mrs. Ruth Steele, of Elkhart, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Keeling. Mr. Gordon Patrick was dismissed from the hospital on Mon day. Mr. Chuck Cripe remains a patient in the LaPorte Hospital. ON DEAN'S LIST The following students from our area arc among those named to the fall semester dean's list at Ball State University, Muncie. To qualify for the dean's list, an undergraduate must earn a grade point average of 3.6 to 4.0 and carry 12 or more hours of academic work for college credit. The two area students are Susan M. McCaffery. North Liberty, a freshman, and Scott J. Rizek. Walkerton, a sophomore. NEW STORY TELLER The Koontz Lake Library would like to present our new story teller, Stan Wharton. Staci is a senior at Oregon-Davis High School. After graduation she will be attending Ball State. Her goal is to become a teacher of Elementary Sign language. Staci has plans to do a future story time on sign language. Children and adults will be welcome. An announcement will be made when we set the date. Classes arc available for ages 3. 4 and 5 year olds. The 3 year old classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 - 11:30 or 12:30 - 3:00. Classes for the 4 and 5 year olds are held on Mondav. Wednesday and Friday from 9 00 - 11:30 and 12:30 - 3:00. The tuition for the 3 year olds is $14.00 per month and $21.00 for the 4 and 5 year old class. You may sign up at the Walkerton United Methodist Church from 9:00 - 12:00 and 1:00 2:30 during the week. For the 3 year old class a child must be 3 by August Ist. The 4 year old class must be 4 by August Ist. 2tml6 JOHN GLENN SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES ESTABLISH A QUORUM The Board of School trustees of the John Glenn School Corporation met in special open session on February 28. 1989 at 7:35 p.m. in the library of John Glenn High School. Present at the beginning of the meeting were Mr. Hostetler, Mr. Miller, Mrs. Craft, Mr. Ludwig. Mr Millar and Mrs. Stedman. Mrs. Beem arrived at 7:45 p.m. The superintendent and 16 observers were also in attendance The pledge of allegiance to the flag was recited to begin the meeting APPROVE MINUTES Through discussion Board mem bers determined that the minutes of the February 21. 1989 meeting should be amended to better reflect the intent of comments noted. Corrections under the section Approve Gaims and New Business, item A.. IRS Code Section 89. were offered and agreed upon. Follow ing a motion by Mr Millar second ed by Mr Ludwig, the Board voted six to zero to approve the minutes of the February 21. 1989 meeting as amended. mentary School Project Payment Authorization: Following a motion by Mr. Miller, seconded by Mrs, Beem, the Board voted unanimously to authorize the following Walkerton Elementary School project payments: Rieth• Rile y Construction. $986.00 (final payment). Zioikowski Construction. $6,914.05 (final payment). Steele Fabricating Division, $2,077.26 (final payment). Colip Electric Corporation, $5,343.00 (final payment). NEW BUSINESS A. Discussion: Extracurricular Policies: All those in attendance at the meeting conducted an extensive discussion regarding the need for and extent of extracurricular policies concerning codes of conduct and participation rules. A copy of the audio tape of this discussion is on file in the superintendent's office. It was determined that a committee of persons from the staff, community, and Board will be appointed by president Hostetler to study this issue. The committee's responsibility is to recommend a mission statement and philosophy for extracurricular activities for consideration by the Board. Mr. Hostetler asked that persons interested in participating on the committee contact him. B. Other. 1. Dr. Smith submitted a letter to the Board from School Board attorney John H. Peddycord regarding the asbestos specifications contract with ATEC, Inc., the status of the DeMotte Masonry litigation. and IRS Section 89. Mr. Peddycord will meet with the Board in executive session following the regular meeting on Tuesday. March 14 for the purpose of discussing the status of litigation. 2. Mr. Millar requested that a copy of the North Liberty Elementary School climate audit staff copy be included with the Board’s March 14. 1989 Board packet. NEXT MEETING DATE The Board of School Trustees will meet in executive session on Tuesday. March 7, 1989 at 7:30 p.m. in the library of John Glenn High School. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss personnel. The Board of School Trustees will meet in regular open session on Tuesday. March 14. 1989 at 7:30 p.m. in the library of Urey Middle School. Following the regular open meeting on Tuesday. March 14 at Urey Middle School, the Board will meet in executive session for the purpose of discussing the status of litigation. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the Board, following a motion by Mrs Craft, seconded by Mrs. Stedman, the Board voted six to zero to adjourn at 9 00 p m EXECUTIVE SESSION Following the conclusion of the regular meeting, the Board met in executive session for the purpose of discussing strategies with respect to collective bargaining.
