GLENN GIRLS GET 3RD PLACE IN KNOX TOURNEY The John Glenn girls basketball lean’ finished in third place in the Knox Basketball Tournes Saturday as they dropped a tough decision tn the first round to the host Knox leant and then defeated Marian in the consolation game for the third place finish The two games moved their season record to 4 8 on the season with the Bi-Counts Tourney action this week Knox Game In the Knox game, it was a close one all the way and one in which the statistics were almost identical except for the free throw shooting. Both teams made 15 out of 50 shots from the floor, the rebounds were very similar and everything was evenly matched except for Knox’s 21 trips to the free throw line as opposed to 13 for Glenn Even then, the two teams hit about the same percentage, but Knox’s nine out of 21 gave them three more points than Glenn’s six of 13. The quarter separations were tight all the way with the Redskins finally pulling a little ahead in the third quarter and then holding on to win 39-36. Knox led 8-6 and 19 18 at the first quarter and half. They increased this to 29-24 after three and Glenn just couldn’t overcome the final hump and lost by three. Dawn Rhodes led all scorers with 13 points. For Knox, only Tracy Minix hit double figures w ith 11. but her supporting cast was a little higher than Rhodes' for the victory. What could be in it? The d<x>r opened and out came a weird thing almost like an ant. He had two round bellies and one head. It was green. On it's head it had two green hairs sticking up. He came close to the slide and then slithered away. He was walking to the school door. I ran in the school Abagail saw him too. The weird thing went into my Kindergarten room. It sat down at Mrs. Clauss' desk It drew a picture of itself Then it went away back to his spaceship. Walked in the door and went back up to his home the moon. Kclh Tingle MATH - ME’ I was listening to the radio when there was a special bulletin There has been a spacecraft that has landed at North Liberty School playground So. I decided to go and check it out. When I got to the school I saw a huge saucer. I mean a real cup and saucer, the only thing different was that it was about 40 feet high' Soon. I sec flashing lights go on around the handle. Then, half of the cup slowly goes down and then I sec little tiny numbers jump out at me. The martians were talking through transmitters, and asked me to come in and have some coffee. When 1 got there, there were Math books all around me. computers and pictures of num bers on the wall! I just about went cra/v because I hate math! Then, they asked me if I wanted some coffee 1 said, "No thanks ", So we talked. These martians had come from the un known planet of "Mathit” to help me understand Math better. Ide cided to meet them the next day. Finally, the next day came When I tapped on their door, they let me in and were ready to begin We started with addition, subtraction. muhiplacation. etc. By the end of the day I knew Algebra! I thanked the martians and gave them a list of people's names I knew who could use some help with math. So, then they were off to help others, too.
