FALCONS FALL TO DIG PLAYS AND REDSKINS 21-0 On a night when lightning struck around football fields of northern Indiana, even to the extent of forcing one game to be postponed at halftime, it struck on the field at Knox in a different form Friday night and the result was that John Glenn got burned by a pair of strikes that led to the Knox Redskins winning a 21-6 decision over the Falcons in a Northern State Conference game. Both teams moved their season record to 1-1 with the outcome, this being Glenn’s first conference game of the season. The action really got going in the second 12-minute period. Knox got on the scoreboard first, covering some 44 yards in two rushes by Dewey Smith. The second of these was good for 27 yards and the touchdown, giving Knox the lead with 7:09 left in the first half. On the try for the extra point, a snap that couldn’t be handled well, was picked up by Tom Lindstrand and he managed to run it in for two points instead of the kick for one, result, Knox 8. Glenn 0. The Falcons came back on the next set of downs to get on the board themselves. In this drive, a couple of big plays kept Glenn moving right down the field, Mike JOHNSON INS. AGENCY DON R. Radandt picking up 31 yards on one carry and Gary Strang 13 on another after a penalty had erased a good run by John Pinckert inbetween. The drive ended with Pinckert finding Steve Runyan in the end zone with a 15 yard pass when Runyan was pretty well covered, but managed to outduel his defenders for the catch and the score. A run failed for two extra points and it was Redskins 8, Falcons 6, with 3:47 left in the half. Knox gave up the ball again and Glenn appeared to be moving when a costly procedure penalty erased a good gain on a pass play. On the next play, a Pinckert pass was picked off by Dave Wagner and this set the stage for the two lightning strikes by the host Redskins. The first was a 34 yard pass from Scott Slisher to Lindstrand to give Knox a 14-6 lead. A try for two extra points failed when the run was stopped but Knox had struck very quickly and accurately for this important score. Only 35 ticks of the clock remained, but Glenn was not going to set on the ball. However, the second turnover in a matter of playing seconds followed after a pass from Pinckert to Runyan was complete with a lateral to Radandt trailing the play. This has been a big play for Glenn over the years, but this time it resulted in a fumble and Knox recovered on the 42 yard line with just :07 showing on the scoreboard clock. However, that was enough time for that second big play, another pass from Slisher to Lindstrand and another touchdown. The lightning had struck twice in 35 seconds and Knox, after Tom Allen kicked the extra point, jubilantly took a 21-6 lead in at halftime. As far as the offensive game went, it was basically over in that power-packed second quarter. The two teams were dictated by their defenses in the second half as neither could sustain a drive of any kind and for all practical purposes the game was over at halftime. It was a tough loss for Glenn, who, along with Knox, has quite a few returning players this year and are still expected to make their presence felt in the Northern State Conference. However, the loss will make it a much harder task from here on out. Host La Ville Friday The Falcons will host the La Ville Lancers Friday. LaViile is also 1-1 on the season, losing to Plymouth and defeating Culver last Friday night. There are places that I probably pass several times a day that I missed when I sat down to write about the businesses in Walkerton. Here are several that 1 missed last week: The Hair Shack West, Pavey’s Insurance and Bill’s Barber Shop. I rode right on by the place that I’ve bought glasses for many years, Dr. Elliott Frash. In this same building is a lawyer if you need to sue me, Richard Doyle, and a CPA, Starr & Wildauer. I did hear about a couple of energetic young men who have started up a lawn service, B & R Lawn Service. They operate out of the house at 705 Monroe St. The Betz Tax Service is also at this place. 1 heard that Gail Whitaker was holding my husband's saw blade hostage at his new saw sharpening shop until I mentioned his shop, on Michigan Street. You better release that blade, I’ve got a lot of work for Roy to do. On Monroe Street we also have Louderback’s Tax Service. At 501 Van Buren there is another business called A & K Lawn Service. 1 know that I’m missing a lot of you, but even I don't know w’here all of you are located. So let me know, please. I rode by bike down Roosevelt last Saturday. That report will be ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS S |» AL-ANON
