K. L. Enhancement Fund Exceeds Goal Os $40,000 The Koontz Lake Enhancement Fund drive exceeded its goal of $40,000.00 on Labor Day. The total tally is $42,586.40 contributed for the improvement of Koontz Lake. At this time the Board of Directors would like to say “Thank You All!" The fund drive required a lot of time and effort by many people. The spirit and good feeling about this program has been great. Donations have come in from persons who lived at Koontz Lake years ago and are still very interested in the lakes future as well as local residents and business places. Donations were received be the entire Elliott Bobbe family, including a grandson. Memorials were given in memory of friends and relatives who have passed away. Organizations such as the group known as The People Os Koontz Lake, who are no longer active, contributed. There were well over 400 contributions to the program and this is a great start. It shows how many are interested in beautiful Koontz Lake and next year there will be more. The Board is working with many different areas of the lake with the help of the Department of Natural Resources. State of Indiana, under the direction of James Ridenour. Contracts have been let for the first actual construction work on Phase I which is Pontius Ditch and the Board is looking forward to the start of this part of the project. The fund will remain active and if you wish to contribute you may do so by sending your check to the Koontz Lake Enhancement Fund to Johnson Insurance office, in care of Don Johnson. Route 3. Box 578. Walkerton, IN 46574. We would like for you to consider gifts to the fund as a memorial to a loved one or a donation in your will or at the end of the year as a tax write off. This program will need funding for a few more years and it is hoped that we can count on each of you for your support. Listed are those who contributed the last week and if we have missed your name, please let us know by calling Don Johnson. 586-2580 or 586-7561, or Rav Chapman. 5862495. The 1988 Summer Reading Program. “Go For The Gold", ended on August 20. This year 66 children read at least five books and over 40 children finished the summer reading program by reading 20. books. Many of the children were so enthusiastic about the summer reading they wished to read even more than the 20 required books. For every book a child read over the , 20. they were able to add one link to a paper chain. By the end of the summer the chain wrapped around । the entire front walls of the library. It measured a little over 87 feet long (from Dave's Video to Budd’s Bargain Barn). One avid reader, Melissa Eby, added 80 links to the chain! The children received various prizes as they read. For reading the first five books, they received a free Burger King or Pizza Hut coupon, a “Pizza Buck” from Pizza Hut and got to put their name on the library bulletin board. For reading 10. 15 and 20 books, the children received bronze, silver and gold medals. Finally at the end of the summer all the children's names were put into a drawing for free tickets to the circus donated by Walkerton Dairy Queen. The winners were Hannah Rensberger. Bryn Haydon, Lisa Kuzmicz, Stacy Walter, Melissa Eby, Jim Lowe. Abigail Minix. Kyle Laßere, Timonthy Nifong and Andy Reeve.
