WALKERTON TOWN BOARD MINUTES Members present at the Walkerton Town Board meeting, held at 7:00 p.m. on July 18, 1988. were Cheryl Rizek, Maggie Gaddis, Greg Williams, Walter Heil and Len Jaske. Also present were David Holmes, town attorney, and July Hiler, clerk-treasurer. The minutes were approved as written. OLD BUSINESS: Greg Williams read a letter from the Board of Zoning Appeals in which recommended that the Town Board of Trustees authorize an R-l Special Use permit to Lowell D. and Cynthia Jacobson for the purpose of operating a one chair beauty salon business in their home located at 701 Indiana Street. A special use sign is recommended which must meet the regulations set forth in the special provisions of the zoning ordinance. Motion to accept the recommendation was made by Cheryl Rizek. Seconded by Len Jaske. Carried. Bid opening for street repaving is as follows: 1. Van Buren (Indiana to Illinois), $2,790.00. 2. Michigan St. (Sidewalk at Jackson to 23). $9,530.00. 3. As there aren’t enough funds in the budget to repave all the streets listed, we’ll have to consult with Walsh & Kelly to determine which ones can be done this year. After an agreement is made with Walsh & Kelly, on the streets to be done, a formal assignment of the contract can be made at the next board meeting. There are five lots owned by the Town that are to be put up for sale. They are 100” and 1009 Harrison Street. 911 Tyler Street, and two lots on Adams St. next to the creek. The properties need to be appraised, advertised for sale and then put out for bid. Len Jaske made the motion to allow David Holmes to take the necessary legal steps to sell the property. Seconded by Maggie Gaddis. Carried. Len Jaske made a motion to do the third reading of Ordinance 1988-5, An Ordinance Adopting Rules And Regulations Governing Water Services. Seconded by Maggie Gaddis. Carried. Motion to accept Ordinance 1988-5 was made by Maggie Gaddis. Seconded by Len Jaske. Carried. Jeff Zehner asked the Board to set the price for the dumping of American Roller’s neutralized caustic soda. Len Jaske motioned for a resolution to charge $15.00 per barrel dumped and to charge 25 cents a mile for the mileage to the lab to have samples tested. American Roller is to pay for the testing of the samples. Seconded by Walter Heil. Carried. Jeff also looked into a revolving loan program for wastewater treatment systems with problems. He said there would be at least a year’s wait for any financing. David Holmes suggested we start now and have it engineered and take steps to be ready for future grants for financing. The fence that was taken down at the Wastewater Treatment Plant in order to build a ramp for access to Dr. Bottorff s property needs to be put back up. Len Jaske made the motion for Jeff Zehner to get three quotes for the cost of putting it back up, to accept the lowest quote, and have the work done. Seconded by Maggie Gaddis. Carried. A check to Johnny’s Roofing to pay for repair work for wind damage to the fire station was taken out of the Fire Fund in error. The clerk asked for a resolution to transfer the payment from the Fire Fund to a fund for insurance claims. Walter Heil made the motion to allow the transfer. Seconded by Len Jaske. Carried. Greg stated that since the new tank for the fire department is going to be delivered in two weeks, they would like to know what to do with the old one which is still on the chassis. There is a fire depart-
ment that’s interested in buying the old tanker, and they would also take it off the chassis. Cheryl Rizek made the motion to declare the old tank as surplus property and to authorize the sale of the tank. Seconded by Len Jaske. Carried.
