JENNIFER PRICE IS “PRICELESS” IN TOURNEY ^3* Jennifer Price, a sophomore hitter on the Tri-State University women's vollevball team, was named to the District 21 “All-Tourna-ment” team following her team's second-place finish in the tournament. Price, a graduate of John Glenn High School, led Tri-State in kills in the tournament with 45, had a ’’o% passing percentage, and led the squad in total digs with 36. During the season Price led TriState starters in attack percedntage at 24%. connecting on 244 kills in

Teachers' Association has been informed by Sam Stenzel. Executive Director for the National Vocational Agricultural Teachers' Association (NVATA). Alexandria. Virginia, that requirements have been fulfilled for the 1986-87 NVATA Professional State Vocational Agricultural Teachers' Association Award. The award will be presented to Daniel Awald, vocational agricultural teacher in the Morgan School at Valparaiso. Mr. Awald served as president of the Indiana Association during that period of time. The presentation will be made during the NVATA National Convention at Las Vegas. Nevada. December 4-8. T he NVAT A is cognizant that the national organization can be no stronger than its affiliated state organizations. State associations are encouraged to conduct activities designed to serve the best interests of members, the NVATA, and the profession. Activities considered most essential include the use of an organized program of activities, keeping members informed through regular newletter communications, attaining a high percantage of the potential membership. participating in numerous selected activities sponsored by the NVATA and submitting national reports within a specified period of time. The NVATA recognizes the winning states by presenting a plaque
mounted certificate of recognition to the immediate past president of associations meeting specific requirements. Thirty-one of the 50 affiliated state associations qualified for the Professional State Association Award in 1987. ATTENDS CONVENTION Iva Clark, trustee of Lincoln Township, St. Joseph County, recently attended the annual convention of Indiana Township Association at Indianapolis Marriott Hotel. Mrs. Clark was one of nearly 500 township officials and employees attending the three-day event, which concluded November 21. While at the convention. Mrs. dark attended workshops on such topics as Property Assessment, Eire and Ambulance Service Contracting. Budgeting, and Poor Relief Administration. The workshops were conducted by representatives of the State Board of Accounts, the State Board of Tax Commissioners, and by Indiana Township Association officials. In addition, a round-table session was conducted for Township Attorneys for the purpose of permitting the attorneys to share their experiences in legal matters on the township government level. COMMUNITY CLUB MEETS The GFWC Woman's Community Club met on November 20.
1987, at the Walkerton Community Building, with 30 members and one guest attending. The theme for the day was “Look For Beauty In Thankfulness". After a delicious dessert, served by hostesses Carma Larson, Clara Dixon. Evelyn Ferguson, Esther Smith, Mary Steinhart and Doris Vasil, the meeting was called to order by the club president, Margaret Moravek, with the pledge to the flag, followed with the members singing “America The Beautiful", and "For The Beauty Os The Earth". Devotions were given by Frieda Meyer, assisted by the club choir singing “How Great Thou Art", directed and accompanitcd at the piano by Mildred Casey. The program “Grateful For Things That Cannot Be Shaken" was given by Dr. Monroe G. Schuster. A very inspiring message for this time of thanksgiving. A brief business meeting followed. and was closed with the reading of the club collect. The next meeting. December 11. will be a 12:30 p.m. E.S.T. luncheon at the Holiday Inn, Plymouth. The program to follow will be making stained glass ornaments, demonstrated by Peggy Bruszewski. Call Maxine Blue or Vee Shogren for reservations. A Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Two Walkerton Men Arrested Tuesday, Nov. 17 Two Walkerton men were arrested on drug charges last Tuesday, November 17, following a one-year investigation by the undercover police of the Indiana State Police. Anthony E. Jeffers. 21. of 502 ‘/j Van Buren Street, was arrested on two charges of dealing in a Scheduled 1 controlled substance, LSD. a Class B felony. Jeffers remains in custody at the county jail in lieu of $2,000 bond. He was arrested at his home at 9:30 p.m., Tuesday. Joe W'. Stacey, 30, of 814-A Ohio Street, was arrested on two charges of dealing in marijuana, a Class D felony. Stacey turned himself in at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 17, at the Walkerton Police Station. He was released from the county jail on SSOO bond and was to appear in Supeior Court. Wednesday. Both men were arrested on warrants from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s office and were assisted by the Walkerton Police Department. Both men are claimed to have sold drugs twice to undercover police officers. IN LOVING MEMORY In loving memory of Charles E. Briggs. Those we hold most dear never truly leave us.
