NORTH LIBERTY

Jim Wentz, of Winamac, spent last Friday night with his parents, Barney and Helen Wentz and then on Saturday they accompanied him to Holland, Michigan, where they spent the day with his daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Mattingly and Barney and Helen's granddaughter. Althea Croy, of the Savoie Apartment, just returned home after spending the past three weeks with her brother. Gerald and Violet Feece, in Northome, Minnesota. She also visited with her niece and husband, Robert and Jenny Zehner. She also enjoyed a lot of good fishing while there. Florence Garwood spent the weekend in DeMotte, visiting her son, Bob and his wife, Sandra. On Saturday they celebrated birthdays, namely Sandra’s, Pauline's and her daughter-in-law and Florence's. Rosezella Dietrich, of Kissimmee. Florida, spent a week here visiting Ethel Rauen and friends and then Ethel returned home with her where she spent the last three weeks visiting with relatives and friends. She spent one week with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hornung, in Sebring, and she called on Melvin and Evelyn Newcomer and was a luncheon guest of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert McEndarfer. in Sun City, both former residents of North Liberty. Do you remeber who had the first beauty shop and where it was located in North Liberty? Will tell you next week. There were many surprises last Wednesday evening when the senior citizens found out who their Secret Sweethearts had been for the past year, at their Secret Sweetheart banquet, held at the Church of Christ. After the dinner they were entertained by the "Chords Galore" barbershop quartet, of South Bend. Marie Ross. Lisa Fair and Tracy Limerick also sang a beautiful song entitled "He's Still Working On Me". The employees of Ist Source Bank held an open house, on Sunday afternoon, at the Family Center of the Church of Christ, for their boss, Robert Overmyer, who is retiring after 40 years. A large crowd attended to wish him well in his retirement. Lovely refreshments were served. The Over myers have four sons, Stanley, of northern Minnesota: Stacy, of Hudson Lake; Steve, of South Bend; and Stuart, of Pekin, Illinois. All were present except for Stuart. The community certainly wishes Mr. Overmyer well in his retirement. Don’t forget to attend the North Liberty United Methodist Church bazaar on Saturday, from 8:30 a m. to 3:00 p.m. A turkey dinner and all the trimmings will be served from 11:00 am. to 1:00 p.m. Rolls and coffee will be available from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Enjoy the fellowship and visit all the rooms and see the goodies. Gladys Sheneman entertained the following friends on Saturday afternoon. Pearl Newcomb, Iva Pommert. Mae McDaniel. Martha McCrosky and Francis Slattery. Refreshment of pumpkin pie and coffee were served. Dave and Pam Craft and family spent Thursday and Friday sightseeing in and around Indianapolis. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ginzer flew from South Bend to Atlantic City, New Jersey, last Wednesday, where they spent the day. The community was shocked to hear of the death of Robert Futa. He was well known, always had a smile and so friendly. He will be greatly missed as he had played in the Family Futa Band for the

past 35 years. His death was caused by a tree falling on him that he was cutting down. Our sympathy goes out to all his family. Lynn Ginzer and daughters spent last Thursday and Friday with her parents. Bill and Ruth Bowman and also called on her husband’s parents, Frank and Betty Ginzer. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Johnson, of Fort Wayne, who used to own the Master Mix Grain & Feed Elevator here, were back in town on Sunday to attend the open house for Robert Overmyer, who is retiring after 40 years of service from the local bank. Joan Holmes entertained at dinner. on Thursday evening, for her husband, who was celebrating his birthday. Guests were his mother, Ethel Holmes, and her mother, Ethel Rauen, and Michael Holmes. Children in Pre-K through the eighth grade are encouraged to participate. Pre-K and kindergarten children can dictate their stories to their parents. Each month a topic will be announced and each paper will be assigned a number and judged by a committee. A first, second and third place winner will be chosen from each grade level and an overall winner will be chosen from Pre-K to third grade and one for the fourth to eighth grade. The topic for November is "Pilgrim Children — What Would It Have Been Like?" All papers must be turned in to Mrs. Vai Clauss by November 6. Rules and regulations can be obtained at the school.
