Willie Hostrawser Selected DAR Good Citizen twfc- -^1 Willie Hostrawser, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hostrawser, has been selected by the staff and senior class of John Glenn High School as their school’s representative for the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen. Willie was selected as the senior who best exemplifies outstanding qualities of leadership, dependability, service and patriotism in his school, home and community. Willie is currently serving as the vice president of the senior class. He also was on the class board of directors his junior year. Willie is very active in sports having participated all four high school years

in baseball, basketball and football. He is captain this year of the football team. He has received the Most Valuable Player Award in baseball and the Mental Attitude Award in basketball. Willie also is a member of Students Against Driving Drunk and a four year member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. As a member of the Walkerton United Methodist Church, Willie is on the Family Life Board. Willie would like to attend Indiana State University or the University of Indianapolis and major in optometry or secondary education. Hold Apple Pie Baking Contest At John Glenn The Foods and Nutrition class of John Glenn High School participated in the annual Apple Pie Baking contest sponsored by Eberly's Orchard, of North Liberty. First prize was awarded to Kim Kampe and second prize went to Alisha Renaud. Prior to the contest, students studied the basics of pastry making. including the functions of ingredients. correct measuring techniques, handling procedures and shaping skills. Students practiced pics in kitchen groups and then

individually to prepare for the contest. Each student used a pastry and filling recipe of his or her own choice to bake a contest pie. No convenience items were allowed in the recipes though. Judging of the pies took place in the school foods lab on Wednesday. October 28. Judges were Don Eberly, Mary Ann Christensen, Patti Roush and Connie Marek. Pies were judged on taste, texture, appearance and filling. Prizes and the apples used in the contest and practice pies were supplied by Eberly’s Orchard. Patty Kennedy is the instructor for the Foods and Nutrition Class. BAZAAR NOVEMBER 7 "Memoirs Os Yesteryear" bazaar, sponsored by Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church, will be held on November 7, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the church, which is located at 2404 Lincolnway West.
