Kobek Named Manager For United Telephone Al Dante Kobek has been named Account Manager for the Plymouth and Knox districts by United Telephone of Indiana. In a recent reorganization of United’s marketing department, Kobek was made responsible for all sales efforts in this area. The reorganization is in the beginning of United's effort to become more aggressive in meeting the needs of business customers, small or large, as well as providing total service for residential customers. The assigning of one particular person as responsible for an area will provide continuity in sales and service for all customers. Account Managers will live in the areas they serve and be responsible for introducing new and continuing products to business customers. In addition, United is in the midst of offering several new and exciting products to the business community. Many of these will be previewed at the Telecommuncations Showcase to be held in Plymouth at the Holiday Inn on October 22. Kobek joined United Telephone in 1986 and had served as a communications consultant in Customer Services. Prior to that he was employed by Executone in South Bend. A native of South Bend, Kobek graduated from St. Jospeh High School in 1972 and received his B.S. in Business from Indiana University at South Bend in 1982. He and his wife, Theresa, are the parents of Rachel, 5; Dante. Jr.. 2. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Alex Kobek. of South Bend. He and his family now live in North Liberty, one of the United Exchanges he will be serving. HONOR METHODIST WOMEN The Walkerton United Methodist Women were honored at their district meeting recently. They were number one and to be number one they accomplished 26 out of 30 goals. Some of these were met their pledge to missions, partici paled in World Thank Offering, gave 100 percent to Youth Service Projects, participated in reading
program, held a retreat in their unit, has a prayer chain in their unit and had a call to prayer and self-denial program. Those attending the district meeting to bring back the gift, a book, for all to read and enjoy, were Mrs. Ray Chapman, Mrs. Albert Huhnke, Mrs. John Arnett, Mrs. Robert Flaugher, Mrs. Walter Smith, Mrs. Ed Cole, Mrs. Leonard Beaty, Mrs. Richard Kickbush, Mrs. Harold Knowlton, Mrs. Velma Stahly, Mrs. Nora Hahn and Mrs. Alice Bostwick. January 1 starts another new year and they invite others to join their unit and help accomplish the many goals for the new year. GLENN VOLLEYBALLERS LOSE THREE MORE The John Glenn volleyball team dropped three more scheduled games this past week and their record has now slipped to five wins and 14 losses for the season. They are 1 and 4 in Northern State Conference play. LaVille Wins Over Glenn On Tuesday, October 6, the LaVille team visited and defeated the Lady Falcons by scores of 15-2 and 15-7, The win was LaVille’s sixth in conference play. For Glenn Becky Fair served 100% accuracy. Kim Huizenga had 3 kills, Tammy Rupel had 10 passes and Ingrid Boise 13 sets. The LaVille JWs also defeated the Glenn Bees by scores of 15-11 and 15-13. For Glenn Deanna Ross and Lynnette Kile each served 100% accuracy. Christy Butler had 2 kills; Tricia Zellers 16 passes and a 1.94 passing rating. Butler led the team in sets with 10. CGA Giris Win On Thursday, Glenn visited the Culver Academy for Girls and came home with a loss hy scores of 14-16, 15-9 and 15-13. For the Falcons Ingrid Boise, 16 out of 16. and Karen Schmidt, 9 out of 9, had 100% serving accuracy. Leanne Shuler and Tammy Rupel led in kills with 11 and 8 respectively: Rupel had 14 passes while Becky Fair had the best passing rating, 2.5. Boise had 55 of 55 sets for the Falcons. The CGA B-Team also won over Glenn’s B-Team by scores of 11-15, 15-3 and 15-10. Sarah O'Banion had 100% serving accuracy; Julie Kominkiewicz had 3 kills, Tricia Zellers 10 passes and Jennifer McKesson 16 sets. Michigan City Marquette Wins Monday, October 12, the Lady Falcons visited Michigan City Marquette and lost by scores of 15-6 and 15-5. For Glenn, the team served 92% accuracy; Tammy Rupel led in kills, 4 and passes with 9; Becky Fair had a 2.44 passing rating; and Ingrid Boise led in sets, with 22. The B Team also lost by scores of 9-15. 15-3 and 15-13. Christy Butler was perfect for serving accurary with 7 of 7, while Tricia Zellers had 14 out of 15. Jennifer McKesson had 2 kills, Zellers the 19 passes, and McKesson 20 sets. The B-Team record slipped to 6-8 with these losses. SENIOR CITIZENS CARD PLAYING SOCIAL The Oregon Township Senior Citizens Group meets the third Thursday of every month, at the Koontz Lake Conservation Cub, at 12:30 p.m. The group is inviting senior men and women in the area to join them in a card playing social event, on Thursday. October 15. If you wish to participate in the luncheon, come at 12:30 p.m. and bring a covered dish and your own table service. If you don’t care to eat. coffee will be served at 25 cents a cup, if you so desire. In November there will be a Thanksgiving luncheon.
