Falcons Romp To Third Straight Win 22-0 Friday The John Glenn Falcons won their third straight game Friday night to up their record to 4-3 for the season as they approach the final regularly scheduled game this Friday night. The Falcons ran out of their wishbone offense, using all the backs frequently to win by a score of 22-0 over the Culver Cavaliers. The game was the final home game of the season, unless the Falcons can advance in the sectional tourney starting on October 23. After receiving the kickoff and returning it to their own 37, the Falcons ran 11 plays, moving almost to the Culver 20 yard line before a fumble was covered by the Cavaliers to stop the drive. However, after holding the visitors without a first down, the Falcons took over at the Culver 49 following a short 22 yard punt. From here it took just five plays to score, with the big play a 25 yard run around the right side by Mike Radandt who received a fine downfield block by split end Todd Clifton to go in untouched. Greg Vandall kicked the extra point and with 3:05 left in the first period, Glenn had drawn first blood 7-0. The Cavaliers then cranked out
Second and third place winner received pumpkin baskets filled with goodies. This drive consisted of 13 plays and Glenn then took over at their own 19 yard line with about nine minutes left in the first half. From here another sustained drive unfolded, using 11 plays and covered 81 yards with Sam Borton carrying the last 14 for the score, in the drive the big play was a swing pass from John Pinckert to Radandt and a Culver face mask penalty of 15 yards also kept the drive moving. On the attempted extra point, a high snap was taken by Pinckert and instead of trying to spot the ball for the kick, he ran it around the right side for two points. This made it 15-0, the way the half was to end. Culver killed the rest of the 4:15 before the halftime ended harmlessly. The Falcons, who had gained 190 yards in the first half, 173 on the ground, didn’t look very sharp to start the second half. After kicking to Culver and forcing another punt, the Falcons fumbled the ball back to the Cavaliers. Another Culver punt found the Falcons again not able to move the bail and they turned it over on downs. The two teams then exchanged punts as the play had now moved into the fourth quarter with little to show on either side. Culver put a drive in motion from their own 26 and gained a couple first downs before a holding penalty cost theim 10 yards and then Willie Hostrawser intercepted a Cavalier pass to put an end to this drive at the Glenn 22 yard line. The Falcons were forced to punt again after gaining two first downs and this put the ball in Culver territory where a fumble was covered by Bob Duff to make it first and 10 at the Culver 35. On the first play, Pinckert hit Dan Clingenpeel coming out of the backfield and the pass and run play covered the 35 yards for the score? Vandall ended the night’s scoring with another good kick and it was 22-0 with just a minute and a half

Wells Aluminum Will Not Expand No. Liberty Plant The long awaited decision by Wells Aluminum Corp, whether to expand the North Liberty facilities or choose another location was announced on Friday by Bemey W. Mangneson, president of the company. "Considering all factors, the Belton, South Carolina facility expansion will return a higher rate on its investment as compared to their alternatives which included similar building and extrusion equipment at Wells’ North Liberty plant." stated Magneson, from a prepared statement. The North Liberty plant is the largest employer at North Liberty, employing nearly 200 people. The expansion program would cost $3.5 million. Also from the statement by Magneson, "Wells’ local management regretted a $4.2 million investment was not made at the North Liberty extrusion facility as it would have created 30 new jobs and would have enhanced job security for the employees." North Liberty officials have said that a loss of Wells or a severe cutback in operations as a result of the extrusion press going to South Carolina would cripple the town's economy. A statement made by John Evans, president of the North Liberty Chamber of Commerce stated "1 was told that the negotiations with the union just couldn’t be worked out so that they could put it here. They had asked for a contract extension and I was told the union turned it down." Leaders of Local 194 of the United Auto Workers did not publicly comment on the statement.
