New Zealand it was twice as expensive as in the U. S. and in Australia it was about half again as much as home. They were not on any specific schedule, just wandered the back roads and little towns and stopped when they found an interesting place. Driving on the wrong side of the road took a little getting used to. All the traffic circles and one-way streets were backwards, too, so it took some concentration, especially m heavy traffic. All of their escalators and even the direction people walk on the sidewalks was opposite from ours, too. We flew up to Alice Springs, which is the center of the Australia way out in the outback. It’s in the middle of the dessert, lots or red rock. etc. Reminded us of Arizona. Went to an Aboriginal village there which was real interesting. These are the ugliest people we have ever seen, short and stocky with real big heads and frizzy hair sticking out every which way, real big lips and very dark. We purchased a carving from one of the women there. They live in huts made of sticks and mud. They have strange habits each of them has three wives and whenever a retarded or deformed baby is born, they considere it bad luck, so they kill the baby by stuffing sand down its nostrils and mouth. Twins, too. We then went to Cairns, which is a big beach resort area and looks exactly like Florida and Hawaii, loured the Great Barrier Reef which was really beautiful. All sorts of fish and water animals, different colored coral, big eels and rays and dolphins, etc. Everybody calls everyone “Mate" down there or “Luv”. And they say "Ta" instead of

thanks. All very English. We didn’t have any trouble understanding most of the people but every now and then we would find someone who almost seemed to be speaking a different language. It was especially hard to understand people speaking over a microphone like on the tour buses and planes. Both countries stop for tea twice a day, about 10 in the morning and then again at 4 in the afternoon. Tea and scones, which are like baking powder biscuits with jam and butter and cream are served. There arc lots of tea rooms all over, we enjoyed this custom and they have the most delicious butter. At the hotels there were little tea-making centers in each of the rooms along with a tiny refrigerator and there was always a fresh pitcher of milk in the room every morning. Wool sweaters and coats and skeins of wool were everywhere. Everyone knits or crochets, even the little girls. The weather ranges from 25 degrees and snow on the South Island of New Zealand to 85 and sun at the top of Australia. Australia is about the same size as the U.S. and we had about the same mix of weather. It was the end of winter and the beginning of spring when we were there with a lot of the spring flowers and trees in bloom.

They have huge trees, maybe 30-40 feet tall, just covered with big red flowers, the flowers themselves are about six inches across and fire red. very pretty. There is a 20-hour time difference between the U.S. and Australia, plus we crossed the International Date Line each way, so we were pretty fuzzy by the time we got home. The plane ride each way was almost 24 hours, which was by far the worst part of the trip. Took us almost a week before we were over the last of the jet lag. owners decide to computerize. Free literature that gives a step-by-step guide to determine if a particular business is ready for a computer system and how to go about shopping for one will be available. A demonstration computer will be on hand as well. Said CPA Dan Boyer, "We see a lot of small businesses whose books are not organized. A computer system would help many of them, but most business owners are unsure of how to buy one. We are happy to be able to sponsor this seminar for the small businesses in our area so that their computerized accounting questions can be answered." The free seminar is open to the public.
