Dennis Sheneman, of Whittier, California, called his parents, Claude and Gladys Sheneman, to inform them he was okay, but he did feel the shocks of the earthquakes as he only lives 10 miles
away from where the most damage was done. He is remodeling a building and now the walls are all damaged. Mrs. Shirley Pearson gave a bridal shower for her niece, Julie DeMien, last Saturday evening. Callers of Claude and Gladys Sheneman Sunday afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. Cleli Fouts. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stoneburner, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Patrick, Tammy Stull and Brandon and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Pogodzinski. Claude is having back problems at this writing. A small family reunion was enjoyed on Saturday at the home of Dave and Pam Craft and family. Others present were Dave's cousin. Nancy Fraser, of Portland, Oregon; Mark Fraser and family, of New Carlisle; an uncle. Rod, of Koontz Lake; and his sister, Linda Craft, of Koontz Lake. All enjoyed a delicious dinner together on Saturday evening. Have you ever visited the pumpkin farm, near Ligonier, at this time of the year when Fantasyland is open to all during the month of October? You can see all the presidents faces painted on the pumpkins, bible stories, history stories. Mother Goose, TV characters and many more can be seen. They also have a restaurant and a large market as well as a greenhouse and ole house. It's open year round till 9:00 p.m., it’s worth the trip. Your news correspondent received an interesting letter this past week from Walter and Bertha Strope, of Memphis, Tennessee, telling her how much they look forward to getting "The Independ-ent-News" and reading the North Liberty news. The Stropes are former North Liberty residents. 1 also have been hearing from others who live away and they ail are pleased with the news. The Edwin Bare family reunion was held on Sunday, at Stuntz & Hochstetler Pine Forest, with 37 present. Dorothy Ruff, of Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth, was the oldest present, being 91, and the youngest was Nathan Burch, son of Tod and Karen Burch. Mr. and Mrs. Elen Howell, of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, called on Pauline Howell, last Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Buss, former residents of Stanton Road, now living in LaPaz, spent the last two weeks visiting with their son and family, who live in Elk Chy, Oklahoma. Even the weather cooperated, only having showers on two different days but not enough to spoil their plans Both New Zealand and Australia are pretty countries and the people are very friendly. Several times in talking with the people they would end up inviting the Blairs home with them for a meal or to spend the night. The whole trip sort of reminded them of the Midwest about 30 years ago. No hurry, no stress or pressure, everything seemed to move at a slower pace. They liked New Zealand a little better as it is green and has millions of sheep and cows. They were there a week and then went on to Australia for almost two weeks. They spent a day in each of the big cities, took a tour to see all of the points of interest, then rented a car and drove to the next city. Gas is expensive over there. In
