Remember Friday and Saturday, August 14 and 15, is the North Liberty Lions Potato Creek Festival. Lots of entertainment is in store for you on both days so bring your lawn chair and come join in the festivities. On Saturday evening, August 15, at 7:00 p.m., out at the beach and boat rental, at Potato Creek State Park, three bands will perform traditional German music, so if you enjoy good old country music here is your chance. They came from New York, Florida, Georgia, South Bend, Rochester, Walkerton and North Liberty. The Whitmer’s were also celebrating their 59th wedding anniversary. er, Bremen, Plymouth and North Liberty. Rev. and Mrs. Bob Knowlton and family, of Wilmington, Dlinois, spent last week here with his father, Harley Knowlton, on Riley Road. About 55 members of the Senior Citizens attended the dinner in honor of Lola Pavey’s 80th birthday, on Sunday, in the Family Center of the North Liberty Church of Christ. On open house was then held with guests coming from LaPorte, South Bend, Mishawaka, Plymouth, Teegarden, LaPaz and Walkerton. Lola received many lovely gifts. Sunday, August 16, at 8:30 p.m., the Pleasant View Missionary Church will be in charge of the morning service for the campers out at Potato Creek State Park. The North Liberty Branch of the South Bend Public Library will have a book sale this Friday, August 14, from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. In case of rain it will be held inside. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rauen were Sunday evening luncheon guests of her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Mack, in Wanatah. Did you know we have a new "Second Time Around Shop’’, located on Center Street in the former post office budding. It will be open from Thursday through Sunday and is run by Andy Becker. There will be a pontoon boat parade, Sunday, August 16, at 1:30 p.m., at Fish Lake. They will feature different themes and one will feature Santa Gaus, Mrs. Santa and some helpers from the North Pole and you are to guess who they are. Mr. Gary L. Smith, 402 N. Main, North Liberty, has completed a course in bookkeeping and accounting and has been awarded a diploma by the National Radio
Institute, of Washington, D.C. Smith finished the prescribed course of technical studies with creditable grades and is to be congratulated upon his achievement. The Peddycord family attended the Curtis Smith family reunion, held at Potato Creek State Park, on Sunday, August 9. A good time was had by all. Over 75 people were in attendance from South Bend, Mishawaka, Richmond, Elkhart and vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. Henry M. Black, parents of Pam Craft, are guests of the Dave Craft family. The Blacks are former residents of Koontz Lake and are now residents of Sebring, Florida. The 50th wedding anniversary of Carl and Evelyn Eskridge, 400 S. Jefferson Street, North Liberty, will be celebrated with an open house, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, August 16, at their home. Stop in and say helio. ful decorated lawn. How many agree that we do need a stop light in our town at the 5-point intersection? Did you know that years back, we did have a stop light, until someone hit it and knocked it out of commission. Why was it never replaced? If we ever needed one we sure do need it now, since we have all the Potato Creek State Park traffic coming and going. Please write your State Highway Department and let them know how you feel and if we all work together, just maybe we can get a stop light in our town before someone gets killed there. Lola Pavey celebrated her 80th birthday, on Sunday, August 9, at the Church of Christ. Those of her family who attended the morning worship service with her were her son, James Gardner, of Lake Wales, Florida; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Davis, John Drake and Vera Klinedinst, all of Plymouth; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Welborn and family, of Argos; Mrs. Dorothy Grenert and daughter Thelma Trump, South Bend and daughter, Shirley and husband. Jack Norris and daughter, Jackie and granddaughter, Cindy and Ted Woolett and family. The Marshall County Home Extension Chorus entertained last Tuesday afternoon for the Friendly Neighbors and members of the Pine Creek Church, in their social
room. A delicious salad bar with all the goodies was enjoyed at the noon hour by 75 persons attending. At the next get together, on September 1, will be a surprise, so remember the date and come see what’s in store this time for you. The Carl Zimmerle family enjoyed the past week out at Potato Creek State Park in one of the new cabins. Steve Foresman is now at home recuperating after being a patient in the Michiana Hospital for a week. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Sheneman were Saturday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stonebumer. They will be married 47 years. Many will be sharing their talent next Sunday evening. August 16, at 7:00 p.m., out at the Church of Christ. An ice cream social will also be enjoyed by all present. Ransom Ebersole is in charge of the talent program and Walt and Sherri Lentine and Evan and Patty Henry are in charge of the social. Everyone is welcome. PLAN BUS TRIP The Southlawn United Methodist Church is sponsoring a bus trip to Union Station and Speedway City Museum, on August 20. Cost is $23.00 per person.
