Tori Holland has been officially named as a contestant in the Little Star of American Pageant for children and will hold the title of Little Miss 7-9 in the pageant finals, on Sunday, August 23, at Hellenic Cultural Center, in Merrillville. She is being sponsored by those wishing to remain anonymous. Tori is nine years old and stands four feet, two inches tall and has brown and brown eyes and resides in Walkerton with her mother, Debbie Holland. She likes tacos and fruit and collects stickers. Her favorite star is Vanna White and her ambition is to be a model or veterinarian. Little Miss will be judge in categories on appearances, poise and personality. There is no talent or bathing suit judging. A photogenic winner will be selected in each category for each state participating as well as congeniality winners and special awards. Each contestant participating will receive a trophy and official pageant certificate. Winners for each state will receive trophies, crown, modeling certificates and winners cer-
tificates. The over all winner will receive SI,OOO cash. Old-Fashioned Day, August 22 In Walkerton August 22nd, Old Fashion Day will be held at the Walkerton United Methodist Church from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. There will be a Craft & Hobby Show to be held in the church Fellowship Hall. Also from 3:00 until 7:00 there will be an Ice Cream Social, sponsored by the Walkerton UMW. They will be serving homemade ice cream, hot dogs, sloppy joes, chips and drink and cake. From 4:00 - 6:00 there will be entertainment for your enjoyment and from 6:00 - 7:00 there will be square dancing. Plan on coming and sharing this day together with friends. The public is invited. KOONTZ LAKE LIBRARY SUMMER READING CLUB PARTY The Koontz Lake Library Summer Reading Club party was held August 1. There were 18 children in attendance. After the stories were read, the children played games and took turns telling jokes. The craft for the day for Thumbprint Drawings. This year we had a great total of books read during our Summer Reading Club. The members read 1,092 books in seven weeks. We had a special group of readers this year. The pre-school readers joined and had an assigned reader to read to them. They read one third of the total books. The following are our top readers: Age 1-5 — Daniel Bentle, read 66 books. Age 6-9 — Matt Irujillo, read 84 books. Age 10-up — Jason Williams and Jessica Yakim, each read 63 books. After handing out certificates to members everyone enjoyed cookies, punch and an extra treat of candy bars donated by Ken Weinman of Koontz Lake. Saturday, August 15th, our story teller, Andy Borrelli, will be doing a Back To School Story Time. Books and Crafts will be in honor of everyone returning to school. HOSTETLER REUNION The 35th annual Hostetler family reunion was held at Stuntz & Hochstetler Pine Forest on Sunday, August 9. Family members of Orra and Sarah Hostetler coming from Milford, Plymouth, Valparaiso, Union Mills, North Liberty, South Bend and Walkerton enjoyed the day together. In all there were 49 persent. Mr. and Mrs. Herald Hostetler 111 were in charge. A guessing game, scavenger hunt, hay rides, bingo, children’s games, volleyball and a scrambled word game of the Hostetler ancestors were enjoyed. The oldest was Ted Hostetler, the youngest was Michelle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hostetler, born on the day of the reunion and those coming the farthest were Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Shaw and family, of Milford. New leaders for next year’s reunion will be Mr. and Mrs. Herald Hostetler. Jr.
