LIST SUMMER RECREATION FOR JOHN GLENN AREA Summere recreation activities for the John Glenn School Corporation are listed as follows. Girls basketball, coached by Barb Osowski, is open to girls grades 4-8 and will meet weekdays only, June 1-12. Fourth, fifth and sixth grade girls will meet from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. and the seventh and eighth grade girls will meet from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. The John Glenn High School gym will be the scene, except for Monday, June 1, when the girls will meet at the Walkerton Elementary School gym. The fee is SB.OO. Seventh and eighth grade flag football and weight lifting will be coached by Eugene Bailey and the first meeting is on June 2 at the high school. Weight lifting will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon and the flag football will be every Wednesday at the North Liberty School from 1:00 to 2:15 p.m. Tennis is open to students in grades four to seniors and will be coached by Bruce Fleming. Beginners will meet from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.; advanced beginners from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. and the intermediate and advanced players will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tennis is to be played June 1-26 at the John Glenn High School courts except for the week of June 8-12 when they will be played at North Liberty. The fee is $3.00. June 2 to July 23 is evening recreation with Gordon Mosson in charge. The schedule is on Tuesdays the groups will meet at North Liberty and on Wednesday and Thursday at the high school. Students in the corporation will attend from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. and all residents in the community are welcome from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Swimming will run from June 8 to July 29, every Monday and Wednesday with John Pattison, coach. Swimming is open to all school age students in the corporation and will be at the Plymouth Pool. The bus will leave North Liberty at 12:00 noon; Urey at 12:2; p.m. and from Tyner at 12:40 p.m. Swim from approximately 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Charge at the pool is SI.OO and 50 cents to ride the bus. Varsity baseball is open to any student attending John Glenn High School in 1987-88 and the first game is Tuesday, June 9, at 6:00 p.m. A tournament will be held July 6-11. The coach is John Hostrawser. Boys 13-15 baseball will be coached by Paul Hernandez and boys must be 15 by June 1. The first game is Tuesday, June 9 and starting time for all games is 1:30 p.m. Basketball for boys in grades 4-8 will be held June 15-26, weekdays only. Gordon Mosson is coach. The seventh and eighth grade boys will meet from 7:45 to 9:00 a.m.; sixth graders from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. and the fourth and fifth graders from 10:00 • 11:00 a.m. The fee is SB.OO and the high school gym will be the site. Weight lifting, coached by John Pattison, will be held from June 8 to July 24, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 a.m.

PRE-REGISTRATION FOR HEAD START Project Head Start of St. Joseph and Elkhart Counties, is pre-regis-tering children for its 1987-88 school year. Head Start is a comprehensiuve pre-school program that is free to income eligible families. If you have a child who will be at least three by August 31, 1987, you may call 656-3477 or 586-3206 any weekday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 1:30p.m.

MDA BED RACE SET FOR JULY 4 IN WALKERTON The Walkerton Jaycees, along with Ray & Kenny’s Super Valu, is preparing for their 3rd annual Walkerton Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Bed Race and you are invited. This event is open to any business, civic organization, or group of people interested in sponsoring a bed entry. The race will be held on the 4th of July in the Town of Walkerton. Each team may consist of as many as nine members but only five, four runners and one rider, can be used during each heat. All bed entries must meet certain specifications. There will be awards presented to the fastest beds and the bed with the best design. There is a $75.00 entry fee. Proceeds from this event will be donated to MDA. Please note that since all entry fees are going to a non-profit agency, the entry fee plus any expenses are tax deductible. WALKERTON PARK BOARD CHANGE IN POLICY Effective immediately, any persons or organizations wishing to borrow park property, such as tables, chairs, etc., will need to make their request at a regular Park Board meeting. The Park Board meets every second Thursday of the month, at 7:30 p.m., in the Walkerton Community Building. There will be no exceptions to this policy.

John Glenn Spring Sports Awards Set For June 2 On Tuesday, June 2, at 6:30 p.m., John Glenn High School will be holding their annual Spring Sports Awards Night in the high school cafeteria. Athletes participating in spring sports will be honored. The Falcon Athletic Boosters will host a pot-luck dinner and families are asked to bring a covered dish, and either a vegetable dish, salad or dessert, and their own table service. The beverages will be provided by the Boosters Gub. After the pot-luck dinner, the presentation of awards will be made by the coaches. Pictures of all trophy and special award winners will be taken in the gymnasium following the presentation. TEEN DANCES TO BE SPONSORED BY THE P.T.S.A. Starting on June 9, the John Glenn P.T.S.A. is sponsoring Teen Dances, with the first one in North Liberty at the V.F.W. Post, on Quinn and Tamarack. The next Teen Dance in June will be on the 25th and it will be at the Walkerton Community Building. The dances are for teenagers, 13 to 18 and the cost is $3.50 for admission. BLOOD SUGAR AND PRESSURE CLINICS JUNE 4 On Thursday, June 4, at the Koontz Lake Nutrition Site, there will be blood sugar and blood pressure clinics. The blood sugar clinic will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and blood pressure will be taken from 12:30 p.m. until all have been served. BUSINESS WOMEN TO MEET MAY 28 The Walkerton Business and Professional Women’s Gub will meet on Thursday, May 28, at 7:00 p.m., at the Rebekah Lodge, downtown Walkerton. SENIOR LEAGUE GOLFERS TO MEET MAY 28 AT SWAN LAKE The Swan Lake Senior League will have its first meeting at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28. Play will be 9 holes each week.
