Mr. and Mrs. Dwaine Whitmer, of Koontz Lake, attended commencement exercises for their son. Torn, at Indiana University, Bloomington, on Saturday, May 9. Tom received his degree in business finance. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Burch returned to their home after spending the winter in Lake Placid, Florida, on Thursday, May 7. Ed Kesl, of Koontz Lake, visited with his daughter, Donna, for three weeks in San Diego, California, recently. Mrs. Pauline Klopfenstein returned recently from Indianapolis where she attended a World War II Conference at the North Meridian Inn. This conference was cosponsored by the World War II Times and Department of History, Butler University. Speakers for the event were Dr. Geroge Geib, of Butler University; Don Wade, of Marietta, Georgia: Jim Shelton, of the Confederate Air Force, Indianapolis; Adrian Marks, of Frankfort, Indiana, who with his PBY Flight Crew rescued 56 survivors of the 10,000 ton Cruiser Indianapolis which went down in the Pacific July 30, 1945; and Retired General Wendell Phillippi, of Indianapolis, who presented the story, “I Remember D-Day”. Pauline led the attendance in the pledge of allegiance. Mrs. Eileen Kenyon, of Crawfordsville, held a very impressive emori al service. Others present were Mr. Richard Kenyon, Crawfordsville, and Mr. K. E. Gaebler. Mishawaka. Pauline, the Kenyons and Mr. Gaebler were representing the U.S.S. Enterprise CV-6 Association.

Miller’s Merry Manor in Walkerton will join thousands of nursing homes across the country in celebrating National Nursing Home Week, May 10 • 16, 1987 ‘Discover Life’s Treasures’ is the 1987 National Nursing Home Week theme. It is intended as a reminder to everyone in the community that nursing home residents want to share their experiences with family and neighbors. Miller’s Merry Manor will provide many opportunities for sharing and for honoring residents and staff Some of the activities we have planned are:
SUNDAY, MAY 10 Mother and Daughter Tea Fashion Show sponsored by the Fashion Bug of Plymouth with some of our residents modeling the fashions. MONDAY, MAY 11 Senior Citizens Bowling Ballon Release TUESDAY, MAY 12 Art show - John Glenn students and Tri Kappa Winners will display their work. Gymnastics Demonstration - The Studio School of Dance Gymnastics, Inc. will have the pre-kindergarten class here to dazzle us with their tumbling. WEDNESDAY, MAY 13 VI and Friends Musical Group.

Mr. and Mrs. Ron (Nancy) Williams, of Atlanta, Georgia, spent Mother’s Day weekend here in Walkerton visiting with relatives and friends. Mr. Craig Catalina, of Pataluma, California, was a guest of his grandmother, Mrs. Faye Jones, for several days last week. He also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Stull and family as well as other relatives in Elkhart, on Saturday. Mr. Carl Steinke, of Indianpolis, spent a couple of days here last week with his mother, Mrs. Martha Mull. Mrs. Irene Knowlton had as her guest last week, her sister, Mrs. Veronica Vietz, of Logansport. The weekly pot luck dinner of the Koontz Lake Conservation Cub will be held on Saturday evening. Dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the clubhouse. Mrs. Robert Smith was in Salyersville, Kentucky, last weekend for a visit with her parents. Kenneth Teter, of Mishawaka, spent last Friday with his mother, Mrs. Tener. who is recuperating at the home of her sister, Gladys Sheneman, in North Liberty. Mrs. Vylet Baker had as her Mother’s Day guests, all of her family, namely Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Baker, Mrs. Tracy Richer and two sons, Mr. and Mrs. Kent Poulson and family, all of Bremen: and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Baker, of Walkerton. Mr. Rich Cole arrived home on Sunday afternoon, from Charlotte, North Carolina, where he attends college. Rich will be here visiting
his parents and other relatives for several days. Miss Catherine Hahn was the hostess for the day for Mother’s Day dinner at Potawatomi Park, South Bend, for the Leigh Roy Hahn family and Mrs. Goldie Skinner. Mrs. Bertha Urbin, Dr. and Mrs. John (Virginia) Guttman, of Wakarusa, and Mr. and Mrs. David Yoder, Jessica and Stephanie, of Elkhart, enjoyed Mother’s Day dinner at the Mint Still, in Bremen, on Sunday. A surprise 50th wedding anniversary luncheon was held in honor of Mrs. Velma Wharton at the home of Mrs. Margie Trobaugh. Those attending were June Wiltfong, Irene Fraser, Kathy Daughtrey, Donna Whitmer, Madaline Bonham and Karen Sue Medlin. A cookout was the main feature on Mother's Day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Keeling with Mr. and Mrs. Roger Keeling and family, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Laizuer and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Keeling present. Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Ethel Fields were Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Whitaker and family, of Dyer; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Northam and Brandon, of Walkerton; and J. R. Fields, of Mishawaka. The Richard Ullerys spent the weekend at the J. A Crouches, in Indianapolis, for Mother’s Day. Canoeing and kayaking was enjoyed by all. A silver wedding anniversary dinner was given by Mr. and Mrs. Cell Fouts and Mr. and Mrs. Roger McCan, at the Holiday Inn, Plymouth, with Mr. and Mrs. Roger Kelly as the honored guests. Other guests present were the Don McCan family, of Plymouth; Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Kelly, of Delong; Mr. Todd Bernard, of Bremen; Miss Stephanie Beam, of Walkerton; and members of the Kelly family.

Mother’s Day guests of the Caude Shenemans were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stoneburner, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Patrick, Tammy Stull and son Brandon, Kenneth Teter and son, David, and Susie Teter, of Mishawaka. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Helton, of Knox, were Mother’s Day dinner hosts for her mother, Mrs. Eula Northam. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Wentworth and daughter, of Warsaw, surprised her mother, Mrs. Mahlon Jacob, by coming and preparing the dinner for Mother’s Day. Saturday, May 9, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Gundlach attended Mrs. Gundlach's 50th Alumni at the Fire House, in San Pierre, for San Pierre High School. Os the 12 graduates, four were present and three are deceased. BABY SHOWER Mrs. Gene Davis, North Liberty, was honored with a baby shower, at the North Liberty United Methodist Church. There were 36 guests present. Games were played and prizes awarded. Door prizes were won byh Pauline Johnson, Diana Davis and Shirley Pearson. Cake, punch, nuts and mints were served. Jill received many useful gifts. The show was given by Jill’s aunts and Gene’s family. JULIE KNOWLTON CHOSEN FOR M.W.L.A. TEAM Julie Knowlton, a sophomore at Ball State University, has been selected as a member of the Midwest Lacrosse Association's second team. Julie has been a member of Ball State's Lacrosse Gub for the last two years where they have compiled a record of 18 and 4. The Midwest team will compete in the United States Women’s Lacrosse Association National Tournament, May 23-25, at Ohio Wesleyan University.
