SIXTH GRADE ORIENTATION SET AT UREY Urey Middle School would like to invite all fifth grade students and their parents to an Open House and Sixth Grade Orientation on Monday, May 11, at 7:00 p.m. in the Urey gymnasium. Information will be presented concerning sixth grade schedules, band and choir program, and fall registration. Following the presentation in the gymnasium, parents and students are invited to tour the building to view departmental displays and get acquainted with the teaching staff. Combination locks will also be available in the library so students can try their hand at this new addition to their school day. Refreshments will be served by the Urey Middle School P.T.A. The staff looks forward to meeting all the fifth grade students and parents and hope that this evening together will help make their child's transition from elementary to middle school an easy one. UREY AWARDS NIGHT SET FOR MAY 18 Richard Reese, principal of Urey Middle School, has announced that the Urey Middle School Awards Night Program will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, in the school gymnasium. The Bob Clark Memorial Award, D.A.R. Award, and Outstanding Eighth, Seventh and Sixth Grade Student Awards are among the special awards that will be presented to Urey Middle School students. Along with these special awards, departmental, athletic and attendance awards will also be presented. The public is welcome to attend. Set Academic Awards Night At John Glenn ’ The Academic Awards Night program for John Glenn High ' School will be Wednesday, May 13, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium. This program is presented in the evening so that parents, friends and community members may share in the honors, awards and
scholarships that will be presented to John Glenn students. Area clubs and organizations will award scholarships to seniors for their post-secondary education. The top ten students of the class of 1987 will be recognized as will all students who were on the honor roll throughout the school year. Other presentations will include the Presidential Academic Fitness Awards, John Glenn High School Academic Letter Awards, Hoosier Scholar, and the “I Dare You" Leadership Award. Please plan to join the John Glenn High School staff and students in honoring our students for their academic performances. SINGER PAM HARTWIG FEATURED IN MAY Speaker and singer. Pam Hartwig will be at the May Walkerton Women's Aglow meeting. Pam relates that she was saved at the age of nine and started to sing at that young age. Then she traveled in gospel groups and later became a soloist. In the past few years, the Lord has opened the door for her to sing on TV 38 and 46. Now as a Pastor’s wife, she ministers with her husband and two children. I am very excited that the Lord has opened the door for me to come and minister to the Walkerton Aglow. Her message will be "Prepare For The Coming Os The Lord — Awaken The Sleeping Church". Fellowship and refreshments begin at 9:00 a.m. and Praise and Worship begin at 9:30. Walkerton, hosted the May Fellowship Day, on Friday, May 1. Church women gathered from seven other surrounding churches. The theme for the afternoon was "For Such A Time As This . . . Her helpers were Mrs. Leigh Hahn, Mrs. Gale Sherland, Mrs. Richard Kickbush, Mrs. John Wathen, Mrs. John Northam and Mrs. John McCombs. Mrs. Velma Stahly and Mrs. Goldie Chapman greeted the guests. Mrs. Nora Hahn and Mrs. Esther Kaufman registered the guests and gave them a colored name tag to go along with what year they first attended a May Fellowship Day. Miss Linda Klinedinst and Mrs. Ray Chapman served the refreshments. Mrs. Morris Searfoss was the usher. Mrs. Chapman also explained the breaking of the bread and led all in the procession behind Mrs. Kickbush's pick-up truck down to the Presbyterian Church taking the many sacks of groceries and the donation of $110.58. It was presented to Mrs. Wathen who oversees the Community Pantry. The meeting was dismissed after a circle of prayer. BIRTHS Kevin and Tina Hawk are the proud parents of a son, Lance Kevin, bom on Tuesday. April 28, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Maternal grandparents are Water and Sandy Szynski, of North Liberty, and paternal grandparents are Don and Mary Hawk, of Walkerton. Leonard (Poss) and Susan Jaske, 803 Michigan Street, Walkerton, are the proud parents of a baby girl born on April 29. in the LaPorte Hospital. She has been named Ashley Nicole and weighed in at seven pounds and eight ounces. She was met at home by her little sister, Stephanie, whois 17 months old. Grandparents are LaVern and Donna Roth, of Decatur, Indiana, and Phyllis Bailey, of Walkerton. Gino and Sandy Pirini, of Koontz Lake, are proud to announce the birth of a daughter.
