Mr. Balmer and Miss Cortez are the owners/managers of The Newport Tanning Center, Inc., located in Newport, Beach, California. The engagement was announced at an afternoon buffet held at the Hobbit Restaurant in Orange. ON DEAN’S LIST Brenda Marie Brecht, 126 Lake St., Walkerton, and Debra Lynn Thompson, 4817 Queen Road, Plymouth, have been named to the Dean's List for the first semester, 1986-87, at Indiana University, Bloomington. To achieve the Dean's List, students must earn a 3.5 grade average or better in a minimum of 12 hours of course work. An all-A average is 4.0. These students will be honored April 15 at Founders Day ceremonies on the Bloomington campus. Parents of Dean's List students will be invited to attend the program, which will recognize both outstanding undergraduate academic achievement and faculty teaching excellence.
Community Club Program “Travel In The Orient’’ The G.W.F.C. Woman’s Community Club of Walkerton met Friday, April 3, at 1:00 p.m. with 30 members and two visitors present. Margaret Moravek, president, opened the meeting with the thought “Look For Beauty In International Relations". Devotions were given by Carma Larson. Mary Steinhart and Doris Vasil celebrated birthdays. After a short business meeting. Mildred Casey, program chairman, introduce Miss Mary Heininger and Mrs. Lynn Turner whose subject was “Travel In The Orient". Miss Heininger showed films on Korea and Mrs. Turner on China. Both ladies wore clothing of the countries visited, Miss Heininger a beautiful dress in a fabric unknown to us from Korea and Mrs. Turner a beautifully embroidered blouse and a reversable jacket from China. Miss Heininger, Mrs. Turner and Mrs. Casey are past presidents of the Ohio Federaton of Music Clubs which is affiliated with the National Federation of Music Cubs. Hostesses were “The Saints" Evelyn Schmidt, chairman; Ruth Bobbe. Viola Guard. Helen Hunter, Frances Sohn and Margaret Tracey. There will be no meeting April 17, Good Friday, or May 1, May Fellowship Tea. Members are urged to attend Good Friday services at the Presbyterian Church and the May Fellowship Tea at the United Methodist Church. Our next meeting is May 15 at the Walkerton Community Building with a pot luck luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Members are to bring their own table service along with a dish for the pot luck luncheon. The Banquet date was set for Saturday, June 13, at Story’s Place, in Plymouth. The cost of the meal and dance is going to be $12.00. The officers decided to have a band this year. The “Northside Station", with Garry Orr, has been contracted for the evening. The officers have been working hard at trying to update names and addresses before the reservations are mailed. “Ladies Night Out’’ Is Theme Os Style Show "Ladies Night Out" will be the theme for a salad bar and style show being planned for Thursday, May 14. by Epsilon Chi Chapter of Tri Kappa, Walkerton. Fashions by Treat’s For Her will be presented and will include children’s apparel from The Play Pen, both of Plymouth. The salad bar begins at 6:00 p.m. in the John Glenn High School dining commons. Advance ticket purchases are encouraged. Adult tickets are $5.00 and children under 12, $2.50 at the door. Door prizes include a SIOO.OO gift certificate; two $50.00 gift certificates; and many other lovely items. All proceeds will be used toward scholarships for deserving local students.
