J.G.S.C. Students Have Visual Arts Seminar Nine Walkerton Elementary students participated with nine North Liberty Elementary students in a Visual Arts Seminar for Creative Arts at North Liberty, Tuesday, March 17. The seminar given by John Thomas concentrated on “What Is An Artist?” The students were shown slides that reflect the growth of our resident artist, John Thomas, as well as examples by other professional super-realist artists and by previous John Glenn students. Following the discussion and slide presentation, the students were given a demonstration of the air brush medium. They each had an opportunity to try out the technique and produce an exercise using the air brush equipment from the High School. The participants for this seminar from Walkerton Elementary School were Ryan Bowlds, Steven Savoie, Cathy Arce, Rachel Lichtenbarger, Trella Masten, Nathan Bellinger. Jason Bannister, Talia Balmer and Kelly Jackson. Mr. Thomas was assisted by three of his art students from John Glenn High SChool, Marie Braun, Kim Kriskovsky and Matt Saul. This event, and two more coming (3-D Art with Amy Wait and Creative Dramatics with Robert Mulligan) are planned for creative talented students and are funded through the G/T Grant. BIRTHS Captain and Mrs. Michael A. (Sherry) Harris are the parents of a baby boy, David Michael, born on Friday, March 27, in England. The Harrises are stationed in England and Michael is with the Air Force. David weighed in at seven pounds and nine ounces. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Gene Snyder, North Liberty, and Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Harris. TO BE INDUCTED INTO NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY OF NURSING Susan Adams, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. William Carter, 205 E. Chicago St., Valparaiso, has been elected to membership in Sigma Theta Tau, International Society of Nursing. She will be inducted as a member of Zeta Epsilon chapter at Valparaiso University on Saturday, April 4, in Vaparaiso. Sigma Theta Tau, International Honor Society of Nursing, is a prestigious organization of leaders and scholars in nursing. This honor society, founded at Indiana University in 1922, currently has chapters in more than 230 colleges and universities in the U. S. and is developing international chapters. Membership in the society is awarded to bachelor's and master’s nursing students who achieve high scholastic averages and to graduates of the college programs who achieve excellence in nursing leadership roles. The Honor Society is committed to improving the health of the public by advancing nursing science. Sigma Theta Tau sponsors research, scholarly programs and publications for national and international nurses. It is currently involved in a campaign to develop a Center for Nursing Scholarship that will provide information services for the public and for health professionals around the world. Susan will graduate this spring from Valparaiso University College of Nursing. Valparaiso. GOURMET CLUB MEETS The Greater Walkerton Men’s Gourmet Club met at the home of Robert Kaser on March 17. Members in attendance included Jim New, John McGee, John Froyck, Dennis Jackson, Jay Potts, Wayne McGee and Leo Savoie. Oriental style cuisine was in order for the evening. Appetizers included stuffed mushrooms, smoked mussels and skewered beef with onions. For dinner, the guests were served egg drop soup, fried rice with shrimp, red cooked duck with black mushroom sauce, stir-fried venison with green beans and almonds, braised shrimp and lobster with vegetables. The dessert was honeydew melon and grapes in ginger champagne. GYMNASTIC LESSONS First rate instruction beginning and experienced gymnasts. Group lessons or private instruction available at an affordable rate. $3.00 for an hour of group instruction or $5.00 for a private lesson. Business Women Enjoy March Dinner Meeting The Walkerton Business and Professional Women’s Club enjoyed their March dinner meeting at Leo’s Restaurant, in Walkerton, on Thursday evening, March 26. Forty-one ladies gathered at 7:00 p.m. for the salad bar, peppered steak and scalloped potatoes and ham dinner. Cheryl Flaugher, vice-president, presided. Guests introduced were Leona Briggs, Kathy Hostetler and Catherine Theis. Maggie Gaddis and committee conducted two ham raffles with June Baker and Pearl McConnell receiving the boneless hams. Contributing to the birthday bank were Darlene Beaver, Evelyn Lee, Betty King and Mrs. Remus. Betty King received the gift. The committee for the evening was chaired by Betty King with Maggie Gaddis. Vada Stull. Doris Rhodes. Valerie Paschen, Sharon Baker, Patty Kennedy, Ann Koch, Michelle Koch, Regina Bussie, and Carole Powers assisting. The evening was spent with contests from years gone by. Winning the pie contest was Donna Platz; the cake contest, Helen Heymig; and the stitch contest, Alfreda Onika. The door prize went to June Baker and the participation prize to Sue Shields. The April meeting will be held on the 23 with Myrna Daube as chairman for the evening. Serving on the committee will be Sharon Klinedinst, Marylin Bella, Barb Skiles. TOWN OF WALKERTON ANNUAL SPRING CLEAN-UP The Town of Walkerton will have its annual spring clean-up the week of April 5. Household articles, leaves and brush will be handled at this time. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday all homes east of Michigan Street will be picked up and on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday all homes west of Michigan Street will be picked up. Please do not call in to be put on the pickup schedule. We are going to try this new system and would prefer that you did not call in. MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS NEWS The Urey Falcons Bth grade girls basketball team lost a 26-20 decision to LaPorte Boston on March 17. Scoring for the Falcons were Sheri Fansler, Angie Strang. Tracy Chase, Stacie Hayne, Andrea Wise and Deanna Ross. The team record slipped to 7-4 with the loss. The girls had a great season and worked as a team in all their wins and defeats. Congratulations on a great season. The 7th grade Falcons lost to LaPorte Boston 22-13 on the same night. Scoring for Urey were Michelle Hill, Jody Rausch, Christine Seaman and Allyn Boswell. They finished the season 0-9. The Falcons put forth a good effort

DIABETIC SCREENING AT KOONTZ LAKE SITE The Starke Home Health Care will be conducting a free diabetic screening at the Koontz Lake Conservation Club from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Thursday, April 2. The diabetic screening consists of a simple finger stick with a lancet and a drop of blood placed on a glucostix and placed in a glucometer for reading. Anyone over the age of 21 is welcome.
