Schricker did his very unusual and heart-warming program there. Thirty-three children from two to 12, five teenagers and 15 adults listened and responded as he told his Indian tales and sang songs that he, himself, has composed. He was assisted by his wife at times, who translated some of his songs into sign language, with the audience imitating her signing. It was a delightful experience for all. Even the youngest added their clapping, hissing and shushing to the stories, according to the storyteller’s instructions. Even the oldest took him up on his dare not to blink, not to even think of blinking if they "wanted to stay alive". It was a lively session that got livelier as it went on. Mr. Schricker is the grandson on Henry F. Schricker, who was twice governor of Indiana. He has a rare ability as a storyteller. Those children who attended his program Saturday afternoon are not likely to forget him or his lovely wife and the fun they had participating in the program. Community Club Hears David Whittlesey Os DAR The GFWC Woman's Community Club of Walkerton met Friday afternoon at the Community Building. Dessert and coffee were served by the hostess committee, Lucille Dipert, chairman; Caroline Hancovsky, Betty King, Vee Shogren and Lucille Schuster. Mildred Casey, program chairman, introducted David Whittlesey, Department of Natural Resources, who spoke on "nonand endangered species", specifically in the State of Indiana. Whittlesey gave organizational history of the department, then presented a film and background information, focusing on non-game and their habitats. Highlighted was the reintroduction of the bald eagle, our national symbol, to Indiana. Environment, habitation, migration, tagging and other pertinent facts were related. Thirty eagles, secured from the state of Wisconsin, are to be released this year, and the endangered program appears to be on the positive side.
