MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS NEWS The Urey/North Liberty wrestling team of 6th, 7th and Bth graders topped Triton in a match on March 10. For the Falcons D. Long won by forfeit; B. Strictland won 16-7, J. Arce won 9-7, T. Rhodes won 5-2, S. Zellers won 13-8, S. Zellers won by pin, B. Hill won 6-5, K. Rensberger won by forfeit, J. Peterson won by forfeit, T. Replogle tied 8-8, G. Miles won by pin and T. Rhodes won by a pin. The team record now stands at 2 and 4. The Wrestling team on March 12 defeated Bremen by a score of 48-37. For the Falcons D. Long won by a pin, K. Bussie won by a pin, B. Strictland won by forfeit, J. Arce won by a pin, E. DeLeon won by a pin, B. Hill won by a pin, M. Hesch won by a pin and G. Miles won on a forfeit. J. Arce won his pin in 19 seconds and finished unbeaten, his record 8-0. The Urey girls 6th grade team on March 10 beat the North Liberty 6th grade girls 28-10. Becky Colin had 20 points with Kim Ruby, Jessica Verhaeghe, Lori Wise and Stephanie Morris had two points each. This raised the Urey record to 2-3. On March 16, the Urey 6th grade girls beat North Liberty 25-11. Tammy Lidgard had 10, Becky Colin 6, Stephanie Morris 4, Jodi McLaughlin 2, Kim Ruby 2, and Lori Wise one for the Urey girls, now 3-3 on the season. Cook on full power 1-1/2 minutes. Stir and allow to stand 1 minute. Cook on full power another 1-1/2 minutes; cool. In shallow 1 to 1-1/2 quart baking dish combine rice, sherry, onion and rosemary. Cover loosely with plastic wrap. Cook in microwave oven on full power 5 minutes. Arrange remaining ingredients over rice; cover loosely and cook 2 minutes longer, until rice is tender and casserole is heated through. Garnish with chopped parsley, to serve. Makes 4 servings.

The girls played well against a very aggressive New Prairie team and suffered their Bth loss without a win this season. On March 14, the Urey 7th grade girls lost to LaVille by a score of 19-7. Jodi Raush, Crystal Phenis . and Stacy Miller scored for the ’ Falcons. This dropped their record to 0-9 for the year. The Urey Bth grade girls on March 12 dropped a 30-17 decision to the New Prairie Bth grade. Fansler led the scoring for the Falcons with 8 points, followed by Chase and Ross with three points each, Christensen added two and Osborn had one. The Falcons dropped to 5-3 with this loss despite playing a good game against a strong New Prairie team. The Urey Bth graders won twice in the North Liberty tourney on Saturday, March 14. They defeated LaVille 18-15 in the first game with Sheri Fansler leading the Falcons scoring with Chase, Haynes and Ross also scored. The entire team played great defense against the tough LaVille team. The second game the Urey Falcons came out a winner 22-17 over North Liberty. Seven Falcons shared the scoring in their seventh victory against three losses this year. They were Brems, Chase, Fansler, Haynes, Osborn, Ross and Strang. Once again the entire team played great defense against the North Liberty team. Apples, pears, plums, cherries and almonds are all from the same family as the rose bush.
